A Winchester 1905 adapted to shoot 7.62x25?

I think this is a great idea!
I wish I had a 1905 to donate and am keeping an eye out for one now!
I'm a fan of conversions and this would go great next to my Mauser carbine converted to 45acp and 1911 mags and mauser converted to 45 win mag and desert eagle mags.
Good luck with the search and please keep any updates coming!

Actually, since I couldn't lay my hands on a Winchester 1905 in 32wsl, I converted a former 9mm double stack Para Ordnance LDA (1911 type handgun) to 7.62x25. Kinda fun sending 30 cal 86 grain bullets downrange at oh ..., say, 1700+FPS out of a 1911 type handgun. I learned pretty fast (i.e. in one shot) not to engage the metal plates at my range with this sucker and steel core bullets. Oops!

I'll post a few details of the conversion and the results here or elsewhere on CGN if anyone is interested.

btw: I call the chambering "30 Mauserev" because you can shoot 30 Mauser ammo (7.63x25) or 30 Tokarev (factory or reloads) out of the same gun. Just change the spring to adjust for the different energy levels. Donald Trump would probably call 30 Mauser "low energy".

UPDATE:

I just acquired a 1905 35 WSL and a 1907 351 WSL. I'm going to post them on CGN and if they don't sell for a fair price, I'll probably convert one or the other.

Based on my calculations, the best starting point would be a 1905 32 WSL - but I don't have one. The bolt face would be just about right on. The mass in the fore-end would have to be lighted just a bit (like 10%). If the bore was good, you could even just bond-in a chamber insert and re-ream (and reload 7.62x25 with .311 bullets). The mag would be too narrow, but an M57/ TT replacement would do the trick.

Next easiest would be a 1905 35 WSL - and, as noted, I have one of those.

As noted, I also now have a 1907. The 1907 351 WSL would need way more material taken out of the fore-end mass - and a recoil spring replacement would also almost certainly be necessary. On other hand, I like the way the the 1907 351 WSL fore-end is engineered (with that cool big barrel nut) and I like the 1907 pistol grip. So if I do one for myself, it will probably be the 1907.

The conversion would also make the balance of a 1907 right, whereas, if you have ever handled one of these, you know they are ridiculously fore-end heavy.

The easiest feeding system to set up would be the factory mag - of course. Second easiest would be a Zastava M57 (or TT33) mag, with the mag lips and follower re-profiled for vertical feed. HOWEVER, It looks like opening the mag well to fit a PPS-43 stick mag would work - but one would been to set-up a new mag latch setup. Visually the effect would be awesome - maybe combined with an 18.6" barrel adjustment. That would be "coolski".

You really shouldn't run bottlenecks in a straight blowback. There is a very good reason that all blowback firearms use straight walled cases. However, you may well be able to get it to run .30 carbine or .357 magnum.

Russian sub guns, all blow back, run 7.62 x25. :)

If one wants a bolt gun for .45 ACP or .45 Win mag, ye will have to use a rear locking action such as the Lee Enfield or Rem 788 for proper feeding function from the magazine. The gap from the mag to the chamber of rifles with front locking lugs is too great & you'll end up with a single shot 45 like the one I did back in the 80's on a Swede Mauser 96.

I reckon the Ruger 77/357 action would be dandy as well for this conversion, but I'll just stick with my LE.
