A-zoom snap cap = Jammed 30/30

Gentlemen:

If I may add my 2 cents, To make your own snap caps, one thing that CAS shooters do is punch out the primers, and then slightly over fill the primer hole with Silicone and let it dry, and then trim to fit.

Further, Most CAS shooters will make at least one set WITH bullets seated, and one set WITHOUT bullets seated. This allows them to practice via dry-fire as well as practice reloading with dummy cartridges that have the same feel as real cartridges. An added bounus is that the white Silicone primer pockets prevents any confusion with liver cartridges.

Just some food for thought.

regards and all the best

Thanks RW! My respect for CAS shooters is considerable, particularly where practice methods is concerned. I do, however, have a hard time believing that silicone would be anywhere near up to cushioning the blow of a hammer spring. CAS hammers are set real light, so maybe that is the difference. I'm looking for a solution for my bear rifle. I do have so good quality caps for my 30-06, and maybe I can rig a sleave.

Another CAS trick for those using snap caps is to remove a part of the rim so that the extractor doesn't engage the cartridge. That way you only need one snap cap, since it remains in place as you run your drills. This would also eliminated the possibility of a jam. One would have to be disciplined about not short stroking, but otherwise it sounds like a plan. I guess you would need a cleaning rod to remove the SC.

You know PP, before you dismiss it out of hand, the only way to find out is try it.

What have you to loose.
