Has anyone else tried the new A17 ammunition yet? I tested some today, and about every third round resulted in a leak where the firing pin struck. The cases that didn't leak looked flat with no firing pin indent. It looks as if the pressure blew the indent back out if the case didn't leak. Accuracy ran from 5/8" to 1" at 100 yards for five shots, which wasn't bad with the breeze, but I am wondering if anyone else is having the same issue with the cases leaking.

I've fired about 50-75 out of each of my 1517 MPR and Savage 93 with no case leak issues. I've never looked at the firing pin hits though. I'll try some out of my CZ and Savage tomorrow, I don't have my Anschutz here with me at the range right now.

The cases have very small tears along both sides of where the firing pin struck them. I checked the firing pin, and the edges were very sharp, so I touched them with a stone to remove the sharp edges. I will retest tomorrow.

I have shot a few hundred out of my CZ455 Canadian Edition, no issues, no leaks, cracks and cases look perfect when ejected. BTW, the shoot 1/2" or less off a bag at 100m out of this rifle.

Stubble; I have shot about 60 rounds out of my CZ 452 American, with no leakage or cracking issues at all.

Actually, they are quite accurate in my CZ, running to .6-.7 moa at 100 yards.

Regards, Dave.

I ran 70 rounds through this morning. To start with, about one in six cases were rupturing. I stoned the firing pin edges a touch more, and three of the last thirty cases were ruptured. I just touched up the firing pin a touch more, so hopefully the issue is dealt with. I actually removed very little material overall, I just radiused the edges very slightly. The best five shot group at 100 yards was .410" , but the average was around .750", because of some fliers. The wind started picking up even more, so I called it a morning.

As a follow up, I located some Hornady, as well as some CCI non A17 loads, and I shot 15 rounds of each today. five of the A17 rounds ruptured at the firing pin strike, one Hornady round tore very slightly, and one of the regular CCI loads showed a faint trace of a leak. Most of the A17 cases were bowed out at the case head, but the other loads both looked very flat with no distortion. It appears that the issue is with this lot of A17 ammunition. It was extremely windy, so the groups were not great, but the regular CCI did the best. keeping 13 of 15 rounds inside 1" at 100 yards. The A17 loads didn't do quite as well, and the Hornady groups were quite a bit larger. I will retest for accuracy when the wind dies, as it's 30km/hr and gusting now.

Final follow up. I shot 50 of the standard CCI 17 grain v-max loads with no cases rupturing at all. The wind was much lighter this morning, in the 10-15km/hr range, and I shot four groups of four shots at 100 yards that ranged from .440" to .710" with an average of just under .6". Given ideal conditions, the accuracy may improve a bit, but I can certainly live with what the rifle delivered this morning. I did shoot a couple of groups with the Hornady loads that averaged just over 1", and I shot two more groups of the A17, with accuracy between .750" and 1", with three ruptured cases. It appears that either I purchased a bad lot of the A17 ammunition, or my rifle just does not like this load. I purchased three bricks of the standard CCI load, and the rifle is sighted in and ready to shoot.
