I am looking for a smith to drill, ream, pin an A2 front sight to a barrel for me. Any recommendations for someone that could complete this for me would be greatly appreciated.

Im going to send mine to tacord. U can google them aparently the fellow casey knows what hes doing. When i inquired with him about my sight post i also ordered somw bennelli parts. He shipped them before i sent him the emt!

They are drilled as a single assembly and are not interchangeable from rifle to rifle.

A Mil Spec sight tells a different tale.

OP,
Insure that the gas block shoulder is .335" measured from the center of the gas hole if using a front handguard band.
Or
Said upper will NOT cycle.

Best verified w/ a quality bore scope prior to any drilling/tapered reamer work.

To verify sight alignment,it's best to spot face the Bbl at 3 & 9 oclock & dimple at 6 oclock.
Drill & tap the sight at 3,6,9 oclock & install knurled cup point set screws in the sight.
Shoot to zero sights
Tighten screws
Done.

I believe most that want an original type front sight assembly put onto a barrel want it done with taper pins.

I have been to Colt Canada and I presume it is done the same in other places; the front sight and barrel are put into a jig and both taper pin holes are drilled and reamed while in the jig. Drilled sights from one company will not necessarily fit onto a drilled barrel from another company and have the holes line up. In fact I have never seen it happen. I would guess that even ones that are from the same company may be slightly out.

It is best and easiest to start with a sight and barrel that are not drilled. With a bit of extra set up, it can be done if either the barrel OR front sight assembly is not drilled.

Colt went out of business for a reason...& history will repeat itself....again.

So,said manufacturer(Colt) used a new/different fixture to drill & taper ream taper pin holes on each & every barrel/sight they assembled.

Yes,there are 'plumber's that would not hesitate to pistol drill the pin holes w/ total disregard to gas hole alignment.

My preference is clamp on forward venting adjustable gas blocks by Superlative Arms in FL,USA.

Any set screw sight/block whether the Bbl is dimpled or not will leak gas even if LocTite or RockSet is used.

OP,
Be aware that there are 3 (A2) sight options for various rifle/carbine platforms.
