I was lucky enough to receive my long awaited MS receiver set, and I think I’ve run into a road block with the gas system. I had always envisioned using an A2 style triangle front sight block with my used, fluted barrel. Just went to install it and I noticed the barrel doesn’t look like it was made to accept the taper pins.

Do I need to find a different gas block? I really wanna have a traditional looking rifle with the old triangle style front sight.

Yes you need a barrel tapped for that type of gas block dawg...

Umm no. Barrels and sights are drilled together during assembly and are not, as a rule, interchangeable. There is no barrel that comes with the holes pre drilled as they’ll rarely line up. You need a ‘smith that has experience installing FSBs on ARs. Entirely doable as long as the gas block journal is 1.9” long, most are only around 1” these days.

Just looked at you’re pic. Looks like you’re gtg, just need someone for the install.

This right here, you have exactly what you should have. Send it to a gunsmith.

Armalite used to make a clamp-on A2 style front sight base, Wolverine had one back in the day I used for a project but I can't find them anymore.

The barrel will have to be altered to be used with that FSB. You can get clamp on A2 FSB so you dont need send it out to a gunsmith and etc

The only alteration is that the base and barrel need to be drilled and reamed for the taper pins. That step needs to be taken on any barrel that has a FSB properly installed.
