A400 XCEL Multitarget Question

Hey All

After a couple years of busting clays with my Browning Citori Golden Clays, I have started getting jealous of my Wife's soft shooting Browning Maxus Golden Clays. (She has the purdy maple version.)

Never been much of a Beretta guy, but I like the look of the A400 XCEL Multitarget. At $3900, it's a lot of money for a Semi. (I use a Benelli Performance Shop Supersport for hunting but this thing is over $1,000 more....)

Has anyone shot one or have any information on this gun?

Any info is appreciated.

Had a chance to shoot a demo multitarget last summer .a very nice as far as fit and finish go . It was a very soft shoot gun . However being a smaller guy I found the multitarget to be a bit bulky in the grips . Not being a fan of or use to shooting a high rib gun . I found it to be a strange fit and feel in that respect . A club member I shoot with . as since bought one and absolutely loves the gun . To me the $3800.00 price tag is bit steep for what you get compared to the a400 excel .
 
They are a very nice gun. I was just down at Joel Etchen's in PA and was very close to buying one. The fit and finish is typical Beretta. I didn't buy the Multi-Target simply because I don't shoot a high rib gun as well as a flat rib gun (I'm going with the Smurf version with the non-adjustable rib instead). On the US forums most guys are warning people to Loc-Tite the screws for the rib adjustments in place or you risk losing them !

Fabarm makes a very similar gun that retails for about $2500.00 in Canada (XLR5 Velocity AR) that you might find interesting.
 
I wonder if they came out with that model in response to the "moneymaker" custom ribbed guns. I built an AL391 with custom Cole stock and money maker rib (looks like this multi target) for less than the asking price. It's a great gun BTW. I can switch from trap to skeet in seconds by changing choke and rib setting. Super soft shooter too.
 
I've shot a couple of the demo guns and concluded they weren't good value for the money. The extra features don't justify the additional cost. The Beretta cocking handle and action closer seem cheap compared to the Briley equivalents. Unless I needed the high rib and adjustable comb I'd opt for the blue Xcel which is almost half the price of the Multitarget and add the Briley cocking handle and action closer afterwards.
 
The wood on them is "laser enhanced" !!! My understanding is they have a process that makes the wood seem better than it really is. I agree with Claybuster, the Briley units seem to be of higher quality. There's also a new A400 XCEL Black edition with the extended controls and a carbon fibre, non-adjustable rib that retails between the Sporting and Multi-Target but I just don't feel the need to have the bolt handle and release as the original ones work just fine.

Did you get a look at at Black Edition at Etchens? I saw one at Coles in Naples a couple of weeks ago and was underwhelmed. The finish looked like was put on with a can of spray paint.
 
Yes, they had 5 or 6 in stock. I liked the gun but wouldn't pay more for a carbon fibre rib and the controls ! I like the Parallel Target or regular Sporting more. I liked the matte finish enough that I bought a 690 Sporting Black edition .
 
we all have different tastes so it's all good! My next trip is to Cole's as I'd love to have him build me a gun on his 20 GA "King" engraved receiver.

Back to the OP's post, it seems that most owners on trapshooters (dot) com sure seem to like them ! Down there they seem to run about $2500.00 .

Never thought to check there. Very good reviews there too.
