Ok. This is bugging me. I can't get the charging handle out of the bolt on my Cooey 64b. Judging by the Savage Arms Model 64 manual (they're pretty much the same rifle) the knob is just supposed to pull right out, right?

Well, I pull and pull to no avail. I tried twisting it out, and it just spins freely. I'm going to let it sit overnight in some solvent and try again in the morning... Do I have to put this thing in a bench vise and reef on the knob with vise grips? I certainly hope not.

Any insight?

Have you removed the barrel and allowed the bolt handle to go forward into the ejection port?

I'm trying to remember if the firing pin has to be in a certain position to allow the cocking handle to come out of the bolt. Been a while since I took one of these apart, and I don't own one. Try shifting the firing pin.

The firing pin doesn't 'lock' the bolt handle. Soak it overnight in solvent. I can't recall if the trigger group has to be off or not . . . don't think so. Should be simple; slide bolt forward and pull the handle straight out once it's free of it's retaining slot in the receiver (i.e. it's moved into the ejection port).

If it's still stuck by morning, it means God is punishing you for something.

I just took mine apart and no, you do not have to take off the triger group. Just the mag well... And make sure the bolt isn't cocked so just make sure its not by pulling the trigger. Once thats all done take off the barrel and pull the bolt forward abit and the bolt handle will pull right out. And yes there is some notches in the firing pin to make sure it goes back the same way and it can only go one way when you are ready for assembly.
