for that project where are you on the weight side?
if you can details your win or loss of weight that will be great,.
thanks a lot.
For that project with the current configuration (Stock Rifle, Med Talley LW Rings, Leopold VX5 3-15x, limbsaver airtech pad?)I'm currently at 7.705lbs/ 123.2oz/ 3494 grams.
To be honest that's a great weight in my hands. It feels really good.
I guess the real problem is if I shoot a normal amount at the range... 1+ rounds... I have negative long term consequences in my body for quite some time.
At the present I did change my mind and dropped the rifle off with a gunsmith. I picked up an adjustable buttplate from CSC to try and help with my neck issues- make it more ergonomic to shoot. The part is being cut to the profile of the stock. The muzzle is being threaded M13 something... for a Browning Recoil Hawg Sporter- problem with muzzle brakes and researching them is finding one's available in Canada. The spout that it can cut recoil 70%, I'll be happy if it reduces 30%-50%, obviously the more the better but I'll take what I can get.
The barrel is being cut back so that there is roughly a 1" space from the original length aka 21.5" as opposed to 24". I do realize that I am losing barrel length, so I will loose 50fps/inch- 2.5" x 50 fps: -125 fps and gaining recoil. I think that loss is ok, I shoot 180s and hopefully they carry that energy further down range, I always try to avoid "long-range" shots on big game anyway . All things being equal I made the decision to cut that bit of barrel so I would have better rifle clearance in the woods. Going from 44.5" to 43.5" isn't much but the reduction is meant to be functional. Having your rifle catch trees and bushes slows a guy down considerably and it sucks.
I don't know what I'll be getting back now, going into the unknown.
Its not like I shoot as much as I once did but I would still like to shoot a few rounds and not have to stop and think- pondering if it's worth the long term pain after.
For a win. I would really like to hit that 6lb range mark. That would be great. But I probably won't pursue that route much past this work. Like I highlighted earlier, crunching the numbers I could have a superior rifle for slightly more. Right now it's trying to make things functional for me. I do still have a bit of vanity though- bolt fluting. PR has nice looking pictures...
