hi all, thinking of starting to cast my own, was wondering if theres a "must have" manual to educate myself with before even getting any equipment, looking for a "how to" type of book for info, any suggestions is greatly appreciated!

The internet will answer all of your questions. There's so much info, I don't know if one book would cover it. I've heard the Lyman book is pretty good. There's so many variables as far as lead availability goes.

I would say just start by purchasing
Cheap Lee bottom pour pot $70-80
Cheap Lee 2 cavity mold of your choice $25
Cheap Lee tumble sizing die of your choice $25
And the Lyman Cast boolit manual $50
And have at it see you enjoy it.
As well as youtube, or see if someone will mentor you from CGN,
I showed a fellow how once. You don't need it but sure is nice to
have advice, its kind of an art not a science in my mind. Niagara
little far for me.

The Lyman Cast Bullet Handbook will tell you everything you need to know to get started. Once you read it and start making some bullets it's a good idea to seek out other, alternative sources, for a different viewpoint.

And if you get an invite to come learn from an experienced hand, for the love of all that is shiny and heavy, don't say no!

I have been casting awhile and I will agree that castboolits is a great site, if you are casting or even just shooting cast, Glen Frixle's free e - book "from ingot to target" is in my opinion the best word on the subject.

Find a local guy that has lots of casting experience. I learnt a lot of valuable info from a long time caster that kept me on the right path. I would add also, find a source of good lead.

Been casting and shooting cast for 30 yrs. Best all round source of info/loads etc that I've come across is Lyman cast bullet manual #4.
Picked mine up for 30 bucks at Woodstock show. Look for older editions of Lyman manuals. They all have cast loads/information.
Ask here for specific information. There's dozens of guys with combined hundreds of years of experience who are willing to help.

Welcome to the world of cast bullets.

Thanks for the links, I'm not casting yet, but as soon as I come across a quantity of lead I'll be giving it a shot. Those books look like they will be a great start trying to get some bullets made up.

Cast Bullet handbook by Lyman is worth itsweight in gold but buddy who can guide you is even better.Too many things can go wrong unless shown.

Jacketed Bullet Performance with Cast. By Veral Smith of LBT.

Ross Seyfried wrote an article on casting years ago. I think for Handloader. He openly startez that it borrows heavily from Veral, but the upshot is that there was more to be learned in those couple pages than on many books.
