Was sitting in my stand today wondering about a deer I maybe could have shot at on Monday. It was off to my right, but I shoot off my right shoulder. I generally position my stand in the general direction that I possibly will see deer, which allows me to shoot in a 180 degree from in front of me all the way around to my left to behind me. With a shooting slugs, i didnt feel at all confident in trying my opposite shoulder, nor have I ever felt confident for that matter. Just wondering who here is able to shoot confidently off both shoulders.

I questioned the same thing on another site recently. I am confident that I can take the shots left handed but have decided to practice "lefty" at the range more often.
If the recoil on your left shoulder worries you, how about practice with a .22 first and work your way up as your confidence grows?

when i was in grade 12 i had elbow surgery on my right arm and hunted most of that rabbit season shooting lefty and it didn't take long to adjust. over the years i switch every once in a while, and still feel comfortable. just like anything else, takes practice
I have my stand on a bottle neck and it requires me to be able to shoot from either shoulder 30yds on my bad side and 60yds on my good side I practice at the range off my non dominant shoulder and do pretty well off hand with my shotgun.
I regularly practice shooting from both sides simply because I've got cross-dominant eyes. If I'm going to be behind the scope for a while or shooting off a rest its more comfortable to shoot with my dominant eye. But if I'm actively handling the gun, moving around, etc I shoot faster and more accurately with my dominant shoulder/hand.
I'm right handed,right eye dominant.I've practiced shooting from my non-dominant side and am confident in my shooting ability.Like Cletus,I had a deer appear off my right shoulder this past deer season.Didn't even think about shooting off my left shoulder.No,I stood up,turned to my right and was about to take a shot but the deer was already doing Mach 6.Lucky deer.Stupid me.

Practicing off hand shots are the only way to be good at it. Without the practice it will be ackward in the stand not to mention dangerous if you fall out because you were not prepared.

I practice both sides from field positions- ( Left handed, right eye dominant, shoot right normally). It's twice the fun, rather humbling when you start, but makes you a better shooter in my view. You can work up rreasonably quickly to be just as effective for hunting accuracy purposes from either side, expecially with a quality red dot sight.
Been able to shoot Ambidextrous for about 10 years, however my non-dominant shoulder isn't 100% as good as my dominant one. But I have trained myself and I practice both ways all the time.
If you're trapped on a bad angle and a 6 point buck is on your right and you shoot left, you have no choice but to try even if you don't practice. "Never ever pass by an opportunity no matter how low the success rate might be."
BULL####! 100% unaceptable. you have no right to risk the wounding and subsequent suffering and possible loss of an animal by taking a low percentage shot.
ugh. I can't belive I just read that? you owe it that noble animal, whose life you have chosen to end to kill it in the most efficent, quick, and painless way possible.
I never could. I do a lot of shooting but cannot master it. Now my father was a sniper in the Austrian army prior to ww1 and he could shoot equally well of both shoulders. He said that it was the way he was thought but they had to qualify right handed. If you couldn't shoot right you never qualified.
