Abolt....xbolt....what's the difference?

there is some differnces but is the same basic rifle. main difference is the abolt had a drop down floor place with a removable mag. the x bolt eliminated the floor plate and has a removable mag. bases for scope are not interchangable either. stocks also do not interchange due to the new mag system.
 
I believe I read that X-bolt was created to be more scope friendly by limiting the rotation angle of the bolt to 60 degrees instead of 90. ... or something like that.
 
Both are accurate rifles, for the most part.
The A-bolt had an abortion of a magazine system, IMHO.

Some A-bolts also had truly crappy triggers, and I have seen several
with the trigger "shoe" broken right off on the A-bolt rifles.

The X-bolt has a much more sensible magazine system.
The triggers have been improved a lot as well.
Additionally, the stock design on the X-bolt "feels" better to me.

I like the X-bolt, but you would have a hard time persuading me to buy another A-bolt.

The A-Bolt mag system has kept me away from them.
The X-Bolt I believe is a huge improvement over the
older sibling.
Time will tell if they stand up to the abuse.

The A-bolt has a 60 degree bolt as does the x-bolt.
Rotary mag in the x-bolt compared to attachable mag to the drop plate on the A-bolt.
One mans favorite is another mans bane...
Either one will shoot better than the average shooter ..

I have a number of A-Bolts, my youngest son just got a new X-Bolt. I will now move on to X-Bolts. They are just so breath taking awesome! :D
 
The X-Bolt has a button to cycle the bolt with the safety on, not sure if the A-Bolt does. The scope mounts for the X-Bolt have 4 screws for each mount and I think the recoil pad is different as well. The trigger system is new as well and is adjustable. The mag is designed so that the bullet feeds straight into the chamber as opposed to coming at an angle. And as two-dogs said, they are "breath taking awesome" something the A-Bolt cannot say.
 
IMHO the X-Bolt is the single greatest offering from Browning in a LONG LONG time. Other than older collectible Brownings, or Belgium made Auto 5's and the old TBolts I have never ever liked anything Browning offered, until now. I have an X-Bolt, and will be soon puchasing another in wood!
 
The longtracs and short tracs are every bit as good as the Belgium made ones,as are the Blrs.Have not met a Browning I didnt like.The X bolt,I agree is a very nice gun, for a bolt action.
 
They very well could be Gary, I was just never ever a Browning guy, however the x-bolt changed my opinion of the company's offerings!
 
I really like my X-bolt and would never consider an A-bolt if they offered the a 12 guage X-bolt. If I ever see a used A-bolt 12 guage, I'll buy it just to give it a try and compare it to my BPS.
 
I meant no offense, I should have elaborated more.... even though some of us actually petitioned them to continue production of what we thought was an incredible and greatly needed concept, (especially for shotgun only seasons and areas) they dropped it anyway... The chance of getting one in a x-bolt is less than 0... at least that was Browning's official reply..

My apologies for making myself look like an arse, again....

No apologies needed Cleftwynd. I just couldnt figure out what you meant. I think the A-bolt could be a great choice for the controlled deer hunt. I never thought for a minute that they would build it again in a X-bolt.
