Hi guys, I was wondering if you have ordered in the past at brownell for M1A items that worth more than 100$ like muzzle break and smith enterprise scope mount. Do I need to go through permit or something or simply order straight from them?
Otherwise where in canada could I get those muzzle break and scope mount?
thanks!
Gab

Sandy Moranville is Brownells export manager. You could email her at Brownells. The Smith brake is over US$100 wholesale, so I doubt if Brownells would send it without the paperwork. They welcome Cdn. business, but do follow the regulations carefully.

It will depend on which mount you want. I had to order there 2024 from another supplier because they don't sell it from there site...

I've contacted brownell to see how all this permit thing work, because they sell the muzzle break 18$ cheaper than SMith Ent and the cheapest mount is only available from them.
I'll keep you updated

finally I've tried ordering directly from SEI since its seems so complicated with all those letter and permit. Brownell did send me all the information for the import but I only ordered them a few tools and cheap item.
Ordered mount, muzzle break and ring from SEI
I'll show you picture when I got all this great stuff

First off you don't need a EXPORT permit for a brake or any other gun part from Brownells if the order value is less than $100 . You wouldn't believe how many $90 - $99 order I have put it. Its a pain because lots of goodies I want are over $100

If it is over $100 you require a State Department ( ITAR ) export permit. The catch is in order to recieve a export permit ( which Brownells will get for you ) you need an "Application for International Import Certificate" from Foreign Affairs and Internation Trade . Here is the link to the form you need to fill out

http://www.international.gc.ca/eicb/forms/documents/EXT1020.pdf

Once you fill this out , send it back to Dept Foreign Affairs they will send you your import certificate that you then mail down to Brownells. They will get the export permit for you. Just hope you don't need the brake any time soon.

Keep in mind there things as per ITAR that you will never get a import permit for as "civilian" end user. This is why box # 43 is important ...it tells the US who the end user is. Common examples of this are shorter than 16" barrels, night vision etc

Little things that can hang this up is your value can be correct, but the number of items is incorrect, Brownells will not send in your application

BTW, Unless you are ordering a bunch of stuff ( in the thousands of dollars ) it really isnt worth your time . Why would you spend 2 hours messing around if to save $50 . I would sooner pay a bit more and have one of the Canadian dealers here that order from Brownells on a regular basis order it

I ordered a Sadlak aluminum mount for the Norc M14 from Brownells 2 weeks ago. The guy on the phone was decent and had no problem selling it to me. He did check with someone since it was over $100 but it turned out not to be a problem. Gave me a tracking number for USPS and the thing was shipped out next day. It's been sitting in Canada customs since waiting for duty to be assessed. Who knows how long that will take though. Damn that powerful dollar!

If you know any vendor that can do all the paperwork for me I wouldn't mind spending couple bucks more for it. It really seems a pain in the ass for me.
Well , I faxed my order to SEI, without any kind of permit, if it don't work I'll try another way, like contacting a canadian regular importer.
thanks for the infos anyway guys

scope mounts are not considered gun parts *(regulated by State dept, which has the $100 limit). scope parts (along with shotgun parts) fall under US Commerce dept.and there is no $ limit - unless its a "military' scope or accessory, in which case canuck terrorists can't have them.

Let us know what kind of a response you get from SEI

A 'gun part' is "any item necessary to the operation of a weapon". A muzzle break would not be considered necessary to the operation.

Stocks, triggers, barrels, bolts/assemblies, magazines etc are.
