Hey Everyone,

I just started the relaoding for 7.62X54R.

Powder IMR 3031, Primer: Winchester Large rifler primer
Bullet: Hornady .303 174Gn

I try the two measure ment of powder, 1st 36.Gn, bullet drop about 6inch in 50yr target, sencond measure is 40.7gn, bullet also drop about 5inch in 50yr target.

is anyone use sample powder as me to relaod 7.62X54R, and how much powder you measur for the 174 or 150gn bullet?

I am sure my Polish M44 is in good condition, today I try another two kind ammo (CZ Surplus & Prvi) both of them gave me pretty good group and accuracy.

Thanks a lot

"...try the two measure ment of powder..." You must work up the load, not just pick one or two. Shoot at 100 yards too.
Wouldn't hurt to slug the barrel either. The Hornady bullet is .3105" may be too small. The 7.62 x 54 uses a .311" bullet. Sierra makes .311" bullets.

I have had very good results using both IMR4064 and IMR4320. I use .308 diameter bullets in a Finnish M27 rifle which runs a smaller bore diameter than other Mosins. The Sierra manual notes that IMR4320 gives the best accuracy with 150-168gr .308 bullets. I suspect that your Polish rifle is better suited to .311 diameter bullets, which is the one that you are now using.

Best procedure is to get a reloading manual and begin at the starting load for a particular powder and bullet weight and then work up in 1 gr increments. IMR4350 would also be worth trying.

I used Hornady .303 bullet diameter is .312. and slug my M44's barrel, diamter is .311, so this bullet is good for my M44.
