About to buy a BG Gun - Which Caliber?

338 win 5'10" 180 lbs. recoil is less than most 300 win mags. I can, and have shot 60 rds of the bench in an afternoon . Recoil is much more subtle than a 300 or for that matter a any of the Big 7's and yes I also have a cpl of 300 wins and have owned and shot 3 more as well as the 7's. 225 Hornady's 23 Years, many, many bears and several moose. Like you I wanted something a little larger for moose and bears.

Make sure the rifle fits and you won't have any problem with recoil.

For interest sake , mine is an old Sako hunter. fairly heavy, but a tack driver.

Caliber selection as determined by Jack O'Connor:

"If anyone says that the .30-06 isn't a fine caliber for about 90% of all African and Asiatic game or isn't a good caliber for grizzly, elk, and moose, I gently but firmly tell him he is full of prunes...
FYI: Ernst Hemingway shot all of his 20+ lions with a .30-06! probably using the 220 solid.
