well the title says it all, im about to purchase my first handgun. I have a few rifles and shotguns but this will be my first experience with any handgun, I have my eye set on a Beretta 92fs I handled a few today at my local dealer and the 92 just felt better in my hands. I would like to hear from someone with some experience with this model and weather or not I am making a bad decision.
Thanks in advance.

If the 92fs fit with your hands don't hesitate, I love mine, works flawless, Easy to clean, ###y gun, go for it !!

92fs are great guns.
I would suggest comparing it side by side with a Glock 17, and a Sig P226, and buy whichever feels better.

Personally 92s dont fit my hand worth crap but a 226 fits perfect.

I have a 92g. The grip doesn't fit me as well as I would like (tried a few different ones) so you have an advantage on me there, but I can put up with it for the other benefits. Other than that, I really like it. They are super-reliable and super accurate. Will eat any commercial ammo; they are designed that way. They have some heft to them so that provides some advantage in the "felt recoil" department from some of the lighter (non-metal) guns. Super easy to break down for cleaning although a little trickier for a full dissassembly...although there is a lot of info "out there" on them. Extra mags and holsters are plentiful and not overly expensive. I would budget some extra funds to have the trigger/sear/hammer gone over (unless you are up to this yourself) but then I would suggest that for (virtually) any new handgun in this price range. If you like the Beretta, you might also want to check out the CZ lineup.

Good luck, safe shooting, and have fun, no matter what you get! :)

PS: Start making room in your safe...you will only have "one" hand gun for a short time :)

You can't go wrong with a Beretta 92FS, they have big grips which for me translates into firm control when using double action. I spent a lot of time thinking about buying one and don't regret getting one.
Mine is a commemorative replica of an M9 issued on the 20'th anniversary of the adoption of Beretta's by the U.S. Military, but it is much the same thing as a 92FS made in the U.S.
I thought I would mention that because it could be confused with a real M9 as issued by the U.S. Forces.

I just purchased my first handgun. The Beretta 92fs felt the best in my hand. I tried shooting every 9mm I could get my hands on before I purchased one.
I decided to go with a Glock 17.

thanks guys i think im going to go ahead with the beretta. At this point im just trying to get a good reliable firearm to get started with and as we all seem to know one is never enough so im sure i'll have the chance to check out some of the others mentioned.
G-man i checked out the cz 75 online and its a sharp looking gun too bad my local dealer don't have one in stock id like to put my hands on one and see how it feels.
Thanks again

I am no fan of the M9, but I will leave my hatred out of this post...

I would look at the following pistols if I were you

Metal guns;
-SIG P226
-CZ pistols and their clones

Polymer
-Glock gen4
-M&P

No worries, enjoy your purchase!

"you might also want to check out the CZ lineup."

+1 - I started with the same state of mind as you tengage.
I was set on a 92fs and ended up with CZ SP-01 Shadow. No regrets what so ever.

As mentioned above if you like the 92 in your hand. You can as well go for it. Great pistol.

Also the MKEK Girsan Yavuz 16 is a decent 92 clone if you are on a budget.
