any reason for me not to buy a kimber Desert Warrior?is it too much money for that pistol? i was thinking between the desert warrior or an old colt government for 800. yeah there's a bit of price difference but they are the only two 1911s that i like . it's been hard looking for a clean 1911 without so much tactical crap but the tactical crap on this kimber is so well fitted together that just works for me.

If you have the $$, the inclination and it floats your boat, I say go for it.....

But what the hell do I know about 1911's??? :p

NAA.

Where you buyin it from and are there more?

wholesalesports. i tried calling and see if they have them in stock but they put me on hold for 15 mins. so i placed my order online just now :D . if they have it , they'll probably proceed with the order, if not, i'll cancel it and go for the colt government

P&D has a Black Warrior right now with Night sights I think. Depending if it sold since they last updated there sheets. If you haven't actually seen the desert warrior in person, the color is a lot different then the picture....

go for it!

that's the gun i would have bought if I could have found one in October. the price seems pretty good too - the list price was almost the same 5 months ago.

Highly unlikely they have it in stock. I tried to buy my Kimber through them but they didn't have it and wouldn't for several months. I bought mine from TSE.

+1
Both TSE and P&D carry Kimbers on a regular basis and you will more than likely have a beeter purchase experience when dealing with them.
I own a Tactical Custom II and I don't know if I would ever go back to a stock Colt.

I have a Warrior.

It shoots to the left.

If your order doesn't come through, you could try a Dan Wesson Commander Bobtail. I think they are nice gun.

i love Dan wesson 1911 bob tail. but commando size just doesnt cut it for me. if it was a full size, i wouldve bought it since it's unusual to see a bob tail just above 1000 price range. i love the Valor but that beauty cost 1800. way out of my budget.

looks like wholesalesport had charged my CC, so i guess they have them. i wouldnt know til monday when they call and confirm

Here's an interesting Kimber Warrior discussion, where Larry Vickers and Hilton Yam (two well-respected American gunsmiths, in case you don't know who they are) say some rather unflattering things about that pistol:

http://www.10-8forums.com/ubbthreads/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=56857&page=1&fpart=3&vc=1

Some highlights:

We began comparing notes on the Warriors that Hilton and I have come across over the past year or so and discovered that neither of us have encountered one that has run reliably out of the box. The issues stem from a variety of causes, to include (but is not limited to) chamber dimensions, feed ramp/barrel throat geometry, ignition parts quality (or lack thereof), extractor issues, and slide stop problems make the gun more trouble than it is worth. This does not mean the Warrior cannot be made into a pretty nice blaster, but the work involved can be (and is usually) extensive.

I agree with what is being said here - Ken Hackathorn and I have seen the same exact issues that Tim is mentioning - the Warrior has fleas straight from the box

The worst one I have seen to date was a gun that Ned Christiansen and I both worked on at different times and was still a jamamatic - when that happens to you that gun needs to go away

After recently spending a few days with over 20 Kimber Warriors each with over 3,000 rounds mileage, the previously cited conclusions all continue to ring very true. This collection of pistols, all in street service, had such an alarming failure rate that we were unable to complete a single string of fire without one or more malfunctions somewhere on the line. The issues, much as we've stated, included:
-Feedway malfunctions with OEM Kimber TacPro mags - rounds would nose down into the frame below the feedramp
-Feedway malfunctions with quality aftermarket magazines. The feedramps were improperly dimensioned and all the guns came with the Kimpro finish on the feedramp so they became sticky with extended firing.
-Extractor tension failures - some of the extractors fell right out of the slides upon disassembly
-Slide stop problems - premature lockbacks, failure to lock back, or improper lockback such that seating a magazine caused the slide to drop
-Rear sights falling out

IMO, if you want a "tactical" 1911 with an accessory rail, you'd be much better off buying a Springfield MC Operator.
