Do you think the RCMP would try to check your Facebook? I mean, if employers are doing it, and they are apparently spying on us, maybe this is not so far fetched. Reason I'm concerned is if they see what I post on FB, they would see a lot of self defense related posts. I have NFA, CASD etc liked on my FB and I share a lot of posts from NFA and Sun News etc. Just wondering if they would try to access my FB and if they see that, that they would have cause to make the process more difficult for me. I have my privacy settings set so only friends can see my stuff. Am I being paranoid?

EDIT: I'm applying for both PAL and RPAL.

You know I think they'll stick to the reference calls, especially given the volume of apps they deal with. You have of course heightened the chance of it happening by raising it in a forum, ironically. We teach a class to university students who are going to be out looking for jobs in the near future. It's called Managing your Digital Tattoo. They have pictures of themselves at parties half snapped, rants about their summer job bosses, and worse. Employers check this stuff, and it's hard to erase. It's the same in our adult lives - we are making them very public these days. Ask any politician or business owner who's found pictures of themselves in the paper, taken from the web. Having said that, nothing you have mentioned is illegal or overly extremist, so I doubt it will touch on your application.

I don't think you are paranoid, I just think it's not smart for anyone to open the window to their life on social media. I don't have Facebook, Twitter, my space or any other "All About Me" web site. It is bad practice

The only Facebook concerns I'd have is being careful what you post after you get some guns. I don't make any reference to guns on FB. Last thing you need is every dink on FB to know you've got guns in your house.

Even with everything secured properly break-ins when i am not home are a huge concern.

Good luck with your PAL, hope it comes quicker than mine did!

The tinfoil is strong with some in this thread!

Facebook is a political soapbox for me, my page is almost completely pro-self defence and pro gun rights and has been for at least two years, straight. Almost every single post on my fb page is pro-gun posts and I also run an NFA-affiliated gun rights page. Never once have I had a single post censored, let alone any other thing negative come of it.

If you're worried about it, make sure your security settings are set to allow friends only to see your posts. Done deal.

Unless you post things like photos of your altar shrine to Jeffrey Dahmer or shiz like that they don't have any cause to make your application any more difficult.

You're screwed buddy, the first thing they do is look at your facebook account to see if you're PAL worthy. Then the call your first grade teacher to see if you were violent as a child. After that they call all your ex girl friends (or boyfriends, if you're inclined that way). Then they call Revenue Canada to see if you've been paying your taxes. Then they call your boss and ask it you've gone "postal" in the last year. Then they'll call you for a blood test to see if you're the right type

best give up your dream of owning a firearm

Oh yeah BTW you're being paranoid :D

Corry FTW hahaha

Facebook, lol... the perfect solution for people who need constant feedback from their peers, even if it comes at a price of potentially being screwed big time in other (much more important) aspects of their personal lives. Insecurity is strong with those...

Does the CFC/RCMP check your FB account? Who knows... But I do know for a fact that some LEO agencies have already used Facebook to build very extensive profiles of many people "of interest" and, in some cases, charged those dumb enough to brag about their illegal activities to their equally dumb FB friends. Names, pictures, dates of birth, interests, common activities, hangouts, profile updates... a beautiful place for law enforcement to get that extra info. Some of the info gathered has already been used successfully as evidence in Court as well. It's like a written confession.

Never had Facebook, never will... so never will I have to worry about any of it. Not that I engage in illegal activity myself, which I don't, but I know FB is a voluntary and permanent exposure of your privacy - and the OP's worries are yet another proof of that. He's definitively NOT paranoid if he thinks his FB account *could* play a role in how his application is handled. The only question is whether or not the RCMP has the resources and the time to spend an extra 5 minutes digging for that info... they just might.

It's 2014 after all and even the most backward dinosaur-age bureaucracies have to get on with the times at some point. ;)

Enough said.

I heard they were checking facebook, but they stopped because they got tired of receiving so many games invites!!! /sarcasm off

Seriously don't worry about it, the security check is not that big.
