Bought a new 10/22, a factory Ruger 10" barrel, a neat muzzle brake (had to get the barrel threaded) a used Arch Angel 556 stock, a ProMag MP5 style mag, a Black Dog drum, 1/2 point sling, flip up sights, 20mm riser rails, AR picatinny sight block for my 3x9 Mildot scope.

All I can say is WOW!!!!

Using Golden Bullet bulk I was able to reach easily to 100 yards in the wind and touch gophers. The Goldens really performed well. I was shooting against heavy barrel Rugers and did well. What I did find is stay away from doping the scope too much adjusting messed with the hit ratio. I just did the same thing over and over again shoot at the gophers left foot every shot from 50 to 100 hundreds went in the boiler room.

The reduced weight, ease of handling, and functioning makes this set up my all time favourite to for walking fields.

Love this set up!!!!

A 6" barrel will achieve 90% velocity compared to a 16" barrel. The difference between 8" and the optimal 16" barrel is less than 8% and that value diminishes as you get closer to the 16" mark. Short barrels in a rimfire just make sense.
