I didn't want to continue to hijack another thread so I started my own.

I'm offering an open challenge to jaycee.

I have a Trijicon Accupoint. jaycee has claimed the reticle fails in certain light conditions.

Give me the exact light conditions where you think the reticle will washout or fail or appear "on fire" in any way. I'll put the optic in that exact situation and take a picture of the reticle.

You cannot really make it fail because the reticle is etched. Even if the fibre optics is overcome you can still see the black reticle - just like the ACOG.

Here, just to muddy the waters a bit. A post containing both proof of the accupoint's use by some BMF's and proof of occasional failures in poor conditions.

Interesting topic of discussion... but we're not looking at how water resistant they are, but whether the fiber optics will fail in certain lighting conditions.

I was referring more to the statements by certain individuals about the Accupoint not being fielded by any big name end users as well as the broader statement against the optics suitability for combat. I'm more on the hells yes side of the accupoint for a SHTF/fighting gun issue. I'd just make it take a bath first to make sure it doesn't become a kaleidoscope. :) Other Trijicon products are known to be too bright in some conditions but even the simplest soldier issued with them knows a piece of tape will fix the excessive brightness.

Why would you need a piece of tape?? It has a built in shroud to cover the fibre optic as much as you want.

Or you could just take lots of pictures of the reticle in varying conditions and post them anyways?

haha, slowly trying to talk myself into one, and love "action"/down range shots of the reticle. looked through one at shooting edge, and have been hooked since, not nearly enough pictures of them on ar15.com

Like he stated, a really light outdoor into a dark room, and vise versa?

also does the recticle "sit" on top of the post or does it cover a small section? and when you sight it in, do you go for the tip of the triangle?

@ Estrada:
I've only used an older ACOG and briefly at that. It was not equipped with a cover or it may have been originally (broken off?). I've never handled the accupoint to know its features well (although I admittedly want one) however a sliding cover would beat the electrical tape fix seen in many in theater pics with ACOG's.
