I was wondering what kind of accuracy you can expect from bulk Hornady .224 cal soft point flat base bullets 55gr out of a 1 - 8. Twist barrel. Reason is the price is hard to resist.

I have always gotten great results from nosler ballistic tips and bergers but just curious about these.

Thanks

The Hornady SPFB are known to shoot very well especially for the price. My results have been 0.7MOA from a 18" AR(1in7") and 0.5MOA from a 1in9" bolt gun.

ETA: Also they will really mess up a coyote inside of 250 yards.

I discussed this same issue with Joyce Hornady (some years ago). I was asking about the 150 gr SPFB and the FMJBT bullet. He explained that any bullet with the jacket closure at the nose would be significantly more accurate than a bullet with an open base.

He said the difference between a match grade bullet and a soft point is not very big, but the soft point (or BT) is much better than the FMJ.

I run the 55gr bulk in my 222 and 223, pretty accurate stuff, no complaints here.
