Accuracy International - Arctic Warfare - 7.62x51 (Pictures)

I picked up an interesting magazine yesterday. Seems like (American) gun magazines almost never have anything about Accuracy International, but this one has a ton of stuff on AI. It is practically a "joint venture" between the magazine and AI. Even the back cover is an AI add.

The article I really like though (as I am a nut for the AW) is this one on the history of AI:

Interesting story about the PSR as well (as seen on the front and back covers too! Gearing up to lobby the U.S.???)

I picked up the same magazine Saturday in Phoenix. This is the third year for the magazine, I have the two previous issues as well and lots interesting articles regarding eqpt and traning. Both other issues have articles about AI rifles as well

That a very nice system, Dame I know what I wanted next Christmas, for those that Can afford to pay that kind of price, Well done, they worth every Dime.
The Regular AX in 308 or 338Lapua is still very ###Y.

Curious how long it is with the stock folded? Got to be close to 30" with a 20" barrel!

I took some more photos of this rifle after cleaning it this weekend. With the stock folded it is right around 31" - from the muzzle to the back of the pistol grip.

I am thinking about getting this case that it came with sand blasted and repainted. It had all kinds of courier stickers on it when I got it. I tried to get most of that off, but to get it to look new it would have to be blasted and repainted. Can anyone recommend anywhere in the Lower Mainland of BC that does that kind of work? I don't even use this case for going to the range, but it is kinda cool to have. They cost like $700 from Wolverine. I doubt I would pay that unless I was going to use it.

I've been in contact with Wolverine about ordering some different parts for the rifle to try some different stuff: 26" barrel, muzzle break, getting rid of the IMUNS night vision rail and trying that, etc. I'll have more updates at some point.

On the accuracy front, I think I can safely say at this point that it will shoot a pretty consistent 1/2" (or so) at 100m with good factory ammo, and right around 1" at 200m with factory (match). This is the best 5-shot 200m group I've done, 3/4" at 200m, and a few more from recent weeks. I think I could do better if I could settle my technique down a bit. I still feel like there is movement.

I switched over to 175gr. Gold Medal Match for the next while, as of this weekend. Starting out at 100m, every group I shot I would start out with something like the first three shots going into one ragged hole, and then the shots 4 or 5 would be a little off. This group below... it is hard not to be at least somewhat satisfied with this, but that hit to the left... that is shot number 5 :( I was on my way to a "best ever" (for me) 100m group and....blah. There`s always next weekend!

Get in some more trigger time and try the 1/2" challenge. We need some more 308 "tactical" rifles to succeed. Only 2 so far.

I think if I get a better rear bag I can do it for sure. I have no doubt at all that the gun and ammo will do it no problem (maybe that is the comment that inspired you to create your thread in the first place! but I believe it to be true in this case!), it is the shooter that is the weak link here.

I`m going to look around this week for a proper bunny-type rear bag and I`ll give it a go next weekend.

Good luck whenever you try.

Beautiful rifle . So far of the match ammo you've used , what does the AI prefer , make and weight ?

Well I will put my new Accuracy International here, AW with 26" barrel. The rifle came from Wolverine and I found the old school stocksides during my European vacation.

Got a good start on initial load testing (100yds), one particular load of 155 Palma's I tried out shows promise. The 175 SMK loads shot equally well. With more load development this rifle should turn out to be a real tackdriver.
