I just bought a Ruger M77 in 7mm-08 from another CGNer. I had my heart set on a Tikka T3 Lite Stainless to match my 22-250 but the price was right, the gun looked good, so I bought it. Should be here in a day or two.

Anyone have experience with the M77, are they accurate? consistent? Mine is the Stainless Synthetic model.

I have no patience for a gun that will not shoot sub MOA, so I am hoping this will do the trick.
 
I have a 25 year old or so Ruger M77. It is a real tack driver, but I was told at the time I was lucky because the barrels didn't always come from the same source. Ruger has since then been making their own barrels and accuracy is supposed to be very good.

Mine has integral base mounts for the scope and came with the rings from Ruger. I've always found this to be one great feature and wondered why so many other manufacturers didn't do this too.

I have the same rifle in LH stainless 30-06. This is my first bolt action and am still getting used to it but MOA no problem. Once I get into the reloading thing that may get better. Good enough out of the box to kill a deer.

Burris has the option of changing you over to a weaver style base and rings if you prefer them. I have had several Rugers and all of them have been excellent rifles. Accuracy has always been good, only one needed the trigger touched a little to get it acceptable standards. Good luck!
 
I had one in 6mm Remington that would shoot one and a half inches at 200, and the next group would run over 4". I read an article once where a rubber washer from a water tap was placed between the stock and the action with the angled action screw running through it . . . but I never tried it. They are nice handy rifles.
 
Ruger 77's

My first was a tangsafety in .300 Win Mag. Shot 3 shot clover leafs @ 100 yards with my handloads [180 gr SP, 70 gr IMR 4350]. Second was a MkII in 6.5x55mm shot sub 1" @ 100 right outta the box. Still wish I had those two. My third is, which I still have, is a tangsafety in 7x57mm. Shoots 3/4" 3 shot 100 yard groups. Also have a stainless/synthetic limited edition MkII in 7.62x39mm - load development in the works. ;)

Rugers? I am on my 5th M77 and have been through 3 10/22's and one 77/22. My stainless .308win shoots 165gr Sierras consistantly under an inch and has taken quite a few deer. I have just settled on a load for my 350 Rem Mag using 225gr Sierras - 3/4" and better.

I found that polishing up the triggers really helps your groups as well.

I have a .223 with a 1 in 12 twist, limits me to the weight of the bullet but 50grain V-Max bullets give me consistant sub 1" groups at 100. I do like the Ruger.

I'd like it back now please... :redface: Bought her NIB circa 1994 from Lever Arms [when they were still a store that stocked such things.... :cool: ]

Oh, BTW, dusty61 also had her once too after me but before you guys... :D

Sounds like a great gun, been sold 7 times in a few years...:p :dancingbanana:
