Christmas is coming and im very interested in a xcr-l in 7.62x39mm

What kind of accuracy are you getting with it ? at 100-200-300 yards and maybe more ,

with cheap and good ammo , it will be mostly for plinking but i intend to probably hunt coyotes if i ever got the time for, i dont mind reloading a few round if i need for hunting ,

dont suggest one in .223 rem , it just a no go for me ammo is more expensive always found the bullet to be too small i just dont like it ,

7.62x39mm is cheap to shoot and i dont have any trouble to clean after , half of the rifle i own is shooting corrosive surplus and they are mostly all semi ,

what your experience with the 7.62x39mm XCR-l?

light or heavy barrel ? weight is not very an issue im used to go hunting with a rifle of around 11 pounds walking in the snow in the field ...

i already know about the loctite joke on the early model , that a long time i look at them the price always put me on the fence , every new rifle i buy seem to be always more expensive !

1.5 MOA with ONE crate of surplus, usually 2-2.5 MOA.
Close to 3 MOA with Hornady hunting rounds, 2 MOA with PRVI soft points.
Best reload: 2.5 ...

Love the rifle (old Gen2), love the caliber but it not a precision machine.
I wanted to go coyote hunting with it but that's not going to work

I have a Gen2 as well, with both 223 and 7.62x39. I get anywhere from 2" - 4" with cheap surplus steel core ammo at 100yards with my x39 heavy barrel. Most groups are in the 2-2.5" range, I haven't bothered with hand loading or tried any premium ammo in my x39 barrel, it's just a banging away with caliber. I can't hunt coyotes in my area with 30 cal, I use the 223 setup for hunting and x39 for plinking. Side note, I am getting just over 1 MOA now with my brand new light profile 223 barrel.

The downside to 7.62 past 200M is bullet drop.
You can get a good battle zero using 25/200, after that she really drops off and you'll need to be good at calculating holdovers. Approx 14" at 300. There's a scope out there with a BDC reticule that may help: Hilux CMR I think. You can see at 400M it starts getting retarded.

I am also waiting to see a detailed review on the new keymod with the light barrel in x39. Have yet to see anyone post one other than the usual claims of what the older generations could do.

sure i know that but all depend of the velocity too and of the bc of the projectile ,

nobody ever tried the hornady z-max ? or the sellier bellot stuff ? this last one is loaded very hot

For you guys reloading try a crimp die. I was never happy with any reloads for my XCR while surplus Czech would shoot 2moa consistently, finally broke down and tried a crimp die. Shoots very good now, 123 V-maxes, IMR-4198 powder in Winchester cases. YMMV

and how much good with the reload ?

I have a new Keymod with the lightweight barrel in 762. I have used both the corrosive surplus and the non corrosive Canada Ammo stuff. The groups using a 1-4 Vortex are not great. I am going to the club this morning to play with gas settings so I will take some pictures of group sizes.

I love the gun, the 10rd. pistol magazines are giving me problems but I think that the gas setting may be at fault (I have it on 4).

I think 4 is too high. You should be running it as low as possible as long as it's functioning well.
Mine's a .223 but I have it running on gas setting 1

why not get the XCR-M if you want to hunt?

the .243 win one was interesting but i already have a bolt action in this calibre and was only doing reloading for it but my reloading stuff is 4200km away and here it a no go where i live ...

the .308 win havent really check it because of ammo cost and i prefer the flatter trajectory of the .243 ,

the 7.62x39mm is a cheap round effective to 300 yards

at the end it all the ammo cost that direct me to the xcr-l in 7.62x39

Here are some groups I shot on Friday afternoon. All were shot from a rest at 50yds, using a Vortex1-4 scope and Chinese non corrosive ammunition from Canada ammo.
All groups are 10rd groups.

I just picked one up, if I get some time I will get a quick review. Here are my initial impressions, balance is quite good, and more important to me then weight. I feel it points better then my 16" AR (H-bar weight barrel) and is overall lighter.
my bathroom scale says 7.3 pds with aim point, irons and unloaded. I had a failure to feed, but that has been exclusively ruled as a mag problem. All other mags but that one feed fine, I bent the feed lips a bit and seems to work now. The ergos are light years ahead of the AR. Love the location of the hold open and have always preferred side charging, I always found charging with a scope annoying on an AR.
As for an accuracy review, I have only really sighted in and played around with it. positional shooting and what not, haven't really shot "groups" I would be cool in doing so for those interested What would the masses like as for accuracy comparison? I have read about some here before and some people don't seem happy unless its a 47 round group with the pope as a witness. Keep in mind this is a "carbine" and not a "precision rifle. I am not going to waste my time of I am gonna just get chewed up by someone because I don't meet their methods.
my first impressions after about 100 rounds, I have no issue keeping standard ammo inside the 2" mark, surplus is a little bigger (fine for 40 year old corrosive for pinking) and since I haven't made hand loads or run match ammo in yet I have no baseline for that.
I would officially test it all types of ammo and I would use my vortex razor HD as the optic so as to get the most out of it.

The best I've done with my XCR was 10 rounds inside 1.75"
The average group size over 12000+ rounds would be ~3.25" with surplus.
I don't shoot many groups, but I've tried a couple things; gas on vs off, bipod/bags, hard hold vs freecoil. My best results were using my Mpod as a front rest, rear bag, hard hold, gas 1.
The most accurate ammo I've used is prvi, I've tried Fusion and others. I've fired less than 100 rounds of commercial ammo.
My XCR is also my deer rifle, with Fusion ammo. 10 rounds grouped 5" @ 200yd, last year and this year. I won't use it past 200, both for accuracy reasons, and energy. The bullet is down to 800ft-lbf ~240 yards.

If you can accept battle rifle accuracy, the XCR will deliver.

My xcr-m with surplus Norinco rounds is only fair, but with factory hunting ammo, it is surprisingly accurate. 2" easily at 100 with fairly rapid shots. Heavier match ammo would probably do better too considering it is 1 in 10" twist.
