Accuracy Problems

Has anyone else had accuracy issues with a Springfield Range Officer?
I bought a 9mm new last year and my 15 yards groups don't get smaller than 4".
I tried a buddies Philippines built 1911 in 9mm with my ammo and nearly shot a one hole group at the same distance and his gun costs $500 less.
 
Have you allowed anyone else to shoot it and tried from a bench with a proper rest? Not sure what ammo you are using and how many kinds you have tried, but you are likely to see improvement with reloads. Any factory pistol should shot better than what you have posted or you do indeed have a problem.
 
I've used the same ammo in multiple 9mm pistols and it has always worked well. I've always loaded either 124 or 147 grain campro plated bullets over W231 though i have not tried 147's in this pistol thus far. I've never tried jacketed bullets cause these work well and are low cost.
When i fired my buddies gun it was free hand and at the same outing he rested mine on a bench and his gun still out shot mine.
 
Field strip it and check the head spacing of your loaded rounds in the barrel. Inspect the crown under a loupe. Check for loose sights. Find someone with the same gun and compare the above with yours.

Buy a 9mm laser cartridge. See where the gun is shooting as you pull the trigger. Almost all 'combat' guns should shoot 1"-2" at 15 yards. This gun should shoot at least 2".

Inspect the barrel. Try different weights, what is the twist on that stock barrel?
 
Already check for loose sights. I'm assuming you meant scope and not "loupe". I don't have one of those. As for psychological, it's possible but unlikely as i picked up my friends gun for the first time and shot it very well. I wish i could compare it to another just like it but i just don't know anyone who has one. I'm pretty disappointed with this pistol already which is too bad. I was expecting a phenomenal pistol and now i just want to get rid of it. I'm wondering if it has a bad barrel but i wouldn't know how to check that. I have also wondered if it just doesn't like plated bullets but that seems silly to me. I've fired this ammo through a norc and a shadow and my friends shadow and his 1911. It worked well in all of those.
 
Could be a combo of new/rough/sharp rifling, plated bullets/heavy crimp and the powder choice.
Do the holes in the target look oblong or show evidence of jacket fragmenting?
 
Just a thought. Try putting a 16 pound recoil spring in it and see what happens. If the recoil spring is too light, the slide might be hitting the slide stop as the bullet is leaving the barrel.

9 pounds with 124 grain is kinda pushing it. Even my Kimber 9mm specs a 12 pound for 115 grain. I've got a wide selection of 14 to 16 pound springs coming in next week (including the Wilson 15 pound flat spring) to deal with an extractor issue. When I tried the 16 pound spring, not only did the extractor issue go away, but my groups tightened up as well.

Yup, that Argentine factory makes good 1911s.

But, it doesn't seem reasonable that the OP can shoot better groups with the same ammo in a SAM 9mm, but not in a Springfield 9mm.

That means that the problem is with the gun, not the ammo.

Could be a bad crown, or barrel positioning being slightly different shot to shot.

...I'm certain he meant "Loupe" when he said to inspect the crown.
