Has anyone here dealt with Accuracy Systems http://www.ruger-mini-14-firearms.com/ruger_mini_prices.php before or are there any gunsmiths in Canada that could duplicate what they are doing?

I am looking for an extremely accurate semi auto rifle in 223 for winter predator hunting and gopher shooting and would like a Mini 14 due to it being listed as non-restricted and Rem's new R-15 is supposed to be restricted.

The rifle package that I am looking at is # 018 but with a 20" barrel...

Any thoughts would be great...

#18 looks good. I also like #12.

My only concern is the cost, especially after having to import it. You'll be around 2K.

I would also consider just ordering the stock "target" model. Ardent has had some pretty good success with his which rivals or beats the guarantees on the one you're looking at. For about 1K.

Let us know what you end up getting.

Lyle @ Ultimate Accuracy does simlar work using a heavy Gaillard bbl.
Any one who knows Lyles work knows the quality of his work and accuracy
of his rifles.

If you insist on a Mini-14, look into their new 'target' model. 18.5" barrel. Non-restricted. The few on-line reports are generally favourable. Good ammo is, of course, essential. $974.03 at Epp's.

For an extremely accurate nonrestricted semi auto in .223 look no further than a Volquartsen Evolution: https://www.volquartsen.com/product/432
Hope this helps

Thanks for the thoughts...

I had been reading up on the Target model, even held one and felt that the balance felt good but that weight on the end of the barrel is just to ugly for me right now...

I think the Target model, even if you had to have it re barrelled would still be the way to go. Otherwise, ya I'd look at the Swiss Arms Black target. If you're getting into the 2k mark what's an extra $800? ;)

Ya ok $800 is a lot but.... you only live once.

Camp Cook. I'm hoping either this year or next to get out and do some golpher shooting. If I do get out possibly on one of your big game gopher safaris I'll bring my PE-90 with me for you to try out. That is if you can wait that long.

I may not be back into Alberta until the summer so may be able too take you up on that offer.

Don't know if I can wait that long to purchase a rifle though.

Then I have to consider the Masada or the SL8-4 that was suggested earlier or is Wholesale Sports going to pull off a non-restricted Rem R-15 VTR...

Oh my what too do... :D

Masada / Bushmaster ACR would be one to look out for. However "when/if" it gets here is another story. I'll be keeping an eye out for that Masada as well :D.

After looking on the board and at gunsmiths here in Canada... there doesn't seem a lot available for the Mini 14. Once across the border there seems to be an almost endless supply. Is there anyone in Canada that sells Accuracy Systems products here? (Or any barrel products for the mini here...) Can we get barrels and gas blocks from them? I am guessing getting any kind of rifle parts over the border is hard.
