Accuracy Winchester Model 70 vs Sako 85

I found the exact opposite myself. Once I bought my first FN built Model 70,everything else left the safe. The ones from Sako,Tikka,Browning,Parker Hale,BSA,even Husqvarna were sold off. I have three of the new Model 70s and contemplating another

Pick up a sako, handle it, look it over, shoot it, then chamber another round. Now do the same with a new mod 70 and you'll now why its $800 more. Not saying mod70's arn't accurate. Sakos are just a better quality.o

I like the older L61R and AV much more than the new stuff. Pick up an old Fiberclass and compare it to the new synthetic stocked 85 and tell me what you think of the quality.

So true!! I do not like the new offerings from Sako nearly as much as those older ones.
I have always considered Sako to be somewhat overpriced anyway, and the new models reinforce that opinion.

Bought my oldest boy a Sako in a full stock when he graduated from high school 23 years ago. It was a 30/06.
We out a 4X Leupold scope on it and sighted it in using Winchester Power Point 180 grain ammunition.
The rifle shot one inch 5 shot groups right from day one. The next hunting season he took a target and shot one
shot at it. Nothing had changed from the previous year, and he put that target away and saved it, shot a few
shots at another to make sure.

Each year since, he has fired one shot at 100 yards at the same target, and all shots are still under one inch.
Not only is that exceptional accuracy, it is reliability and quality. Other than his .22 he shoots nothing else.
Doesn't really need to I suppose. He takes a moose and an elk each year as I did for many years, and also
hunts hard for trophy white-tail and mule deer.

I have had a bias for Sakos for years, but have had some terrific m70 and rems.

Not sure about Sako 85 but my Sako L579 Forester does .75 MOA at 200 yard. I do bench rest it though.

My Sako 85 Bavarian carbine (30-06) shoots as well as it's built -- WELL. It gets passed down to my son when I take my last breath. That also goes for my two FN made Mausers: an unscathed model 1930, and one custum-built hunting rig; both in 7x57. Couldn't care less about the rest of my collection. I suspect an FN made model 70 would also be very fine.

Even if the winchester's are only 1.5" @ 100 shooters, thats still plenty for big game. That being said, both of my FN Winchesters will shoot better than that.

The 2 of mine are both 1" shooters. I sold off both of
My Sako 85's for them and don't regret it at all.

Wouldn't keep a BA sporter that didn't shoot MOA.Have 4 Win 70's at present /3 classics and a FWT 6.5x55 push feed all under an inch.Like the mauser extractor and safety better than Sako's...........Harold

I have reloaded horn 150 interlocks, nosler 150 etips, 190 Berger, 210 Berger and 200 accubond in my m70 extreme weather in 300 wsm and I received excellent accuracy from all bullets. Very well put together rifle.
