"ACCURATE" Ballistic Sotware for P.C.

Im using JBM for this season, I've printed off the range cards for varrious winds and slopes. My only problem with the program is that you cannot update your BC values.


I have been doing alot of reading on the Horus software (not free). It looks very cool, all you need is a PDA (blackberry Id imagine?) and their software. Otherwise, you can buy a pre-packed PDA, or even the HorusKestral anemometer (wind and atmoshpere reader).

The cool think about the HorusKestral is that the atmospheric conditions are automatically updated into your windage and elevation solution, so the only thing you need to worry about when your animal presents itself is the range and wind. Plug that in, dial in the scope and take the shot.

I'd love to own one but the lack of reviews and small screen turn me off for now....

I have since got an I phone.
Ive made use of I Snipe,Ballistic FTE,MD Ballistics, and bulletflight.
All work well, but I tend to use ISnipe primarily.
With my canadian tire weather machine, and the program, my shots are very, very consistant!
It really suprised me!

I have learned so much since I posted this thread, its crazy!
I am enjoying shooting so much, I have hardly even thought about hunting yet! Lol!

Its all about accurate info being processed in the programs.
 
Yeah I would have done the research into Isnipe IF I had any desire to have an Iphone. Unfortunetly that app alone is not enought for me to join the dark side. Hoping to see some good reviews on the HorusKestral....
 
Pretty sure iSnipe uses the Gnu External Ballistics Calculator (GEBC). It's open source software. Just google for it. You can download an executable version as well as the source code.

3 days ago, I purchased an Iphone 4S and I'm so glad I did. The learning curve is continuously steep. Luckily I just walk up to ANY of my high school students and they are MOST happy to help me and show me all kinds of new-to-me ideas and utilities. Wow, what a machine... it's beyond my wildest phone-gadget-dreams. :evil:

I paid $ 8.99 at the App Store and installed Isnipe... I read somewhere that Bryan Litz (Berger ?) had something to do with this program. Anyways, it matches my comeups/range cards developed at Connaught Ranges this past August. What a difference in one's confidence levels. It took me a few tries to learn to save my 'rifle' and 'bullet load' preferences, and then the 'range' favorites... :D All that is behind me. I've even tried my Service Rifle loads from digging up my notes from 10 years ago for Mons Range and Connaught Ranges. Wow... this ballistic calculator is spooky GOOD ! :p

Now frankly, I dunno about you , but I would rather read the wind myself, but it sure is good to know that the isnipe package is not far off my wind charts that I've accumulated over the years. This is a great piece of software. :D

My next addition to the iphone is a LifeProof case that is shock and waterproof for all of life's conditions. Just google the Lifeproof case and you will be good to go. A case is about $ 80 plus $ 24 shipping! Watch their videos and you will be a believer. :)

Once I get that case here and installed, I shall report back to you all! This is a great learning journey.

One thing is for sure, this software and hardware sure won't guarantee any medals (I'm a competitor, not a deployed and tasked sniper) but it sure helps you affirm what you are doing for come-ups and wind /weather/conditions adjustments. What a great learning tool! :dancingbanana:

iSnipe is one of the better reasons to have an iPhone. Worked great at Milcun this past summer and also at CFB Kingston.

The 20-somethings in my office sneer at my iPhone 3G because it's 3 years old but it does what I want. I suppose at some point my #### will fall off if I don't get a 4S, but I'm holding out for a while.
 
If you're a BB user and don't want to switch, GunSim (aside from the cheesy name) works quite well. I didn't trust it at first, so I ran a series of tests to compare it to JBM (recommended by Rick at ATRS) and outputs are almost identical. A bit clunky to use, and if you're using metres instead of yards, make sure you check your zero value as it will automatically reset itself. Don't use the bullet/cartridge library, just plug in your own values. Not as intuitive and user friendly as I would like, but seems accurate.
