I know every gun is different, but I'd rather not by 10 different types of ammo and go through them all. Maybe it's a lack of time, or laziness....
OK, it's laziness.

I'm looking for an accurate round that has good performance on game such as grouse, squirrels, rats, beavers, and the occassional wild dog.
And it must work in match barrels, such as Volq's.

Any suggestions so I can narrow my search?

Thanks in advance.

You can shoot any .22LR ammo in a match chamber, except long brass hyper velocities like stingers.

Most accurate and hard hitting HV hollowpoint ammo I know is Winchester Power Points (X22LRPP). 40 grains, 1280+fps, huge hollow point cavity. Stays supersonic out past 50 yards in most rifles under most conditions. Makes a really big hole in squirrel sized game and pretty much always knocks the squirrel out of the tree. Incredibly accurate for non-match ammo. Just about everyone who has tried these swears by them as their favorite hunting round.

For heavier critters where you want penetration try Lapua Scoremax. 48 grain bullet on standard brass. Subsonic for better accuracy at longer ranges. Good for long shots and unbeatable for shooting in heavy wind.

Eley makes a hollowpoint hunting bullet to match specs but I found that power points shot better, hit harder, and cost less.

Every rifle is different and likes different ammo but I have a whole bunch of rifles and power points shot well in just about all of them.

Hunting ammo

Try CCI Mini Mag HP's and American Eagle HP's. In my match Bruno they will shoot very accurately. At 100 yards they have only slightly larger groups than match ammo. Usually they throw a few fliers out of a tight core group. The core group is usually the same size as the match ammo but the fliers make the group size larger. These are cheap hunting rounds. Steve

As Reg said, powerpoints work good.

They are the most accurate supersonic round I have found yet; work great in my 10/22 with GM barrel, my CZ, and my Marlin.

Pretty hard to find a 'Jack of All Trades' round and there are a couple of considerations. Do you want to 'kill it' and eat it or 'destroy it'? I try to go with two, used primarily in two guns, a custom .22 BSA Martini and a Colt .22 Diamondback. For target work with both & kill to eat, Eley Match ammo has worked well for me. To destroy, Stingers have given some pretty 'Dramatic' results.
