Accurate non corrosive 7.62 x 39 ?

Another vote for Hornady SST, not a bad buy when on sale, or load your own. Prvi Partisan (PPU) , S&B Barnaul are not bad. Dominion Arms and MFS haven't been that great for me, and some surplus is hit and miss, no pun intended.

I'm not impressed with the Dominion, mine is more accurate with the Norinco copper wash steel core. I sure wish I had got several boxes of it instead of the one box when it was available.

Ive used MFS Soft Point 7.62x39 and 7.62x54r and i enjoy both! Better than bernaul thats forsure! i shot a deer with the MFS 7.62x39 @ 100 yards my first deer. instant drop, Since than i love that for non corrosive use

I'm reviving this thread in hopes someone can figure this out for me. Hornady SST's shoot like crap out of my SKS. I think my surplus Romanian shoots better! I'm at a loss as to why. By alL accounts, SST's should be great. Lots of people have used them with great results. Not me. MFS works really well (how I achieved a 1.5" group @100). Baurnal is a little worse, but not much. I realize it's not a target rifle, but one day, it will go hunting and I would like to be sure of what I'm hitting. Is it really as simple as my 22? Find a bunch of ammo and find out what's best?

Hello all

I shoot bernaul. Ive never even touched anything else in my life. BUT Ive realized its a crap shoot in the accuracy department. What are some other non corrosive options?
in what rifle?

I had very good and by very good, I mean I was surprised at how accurate my ACR with 7.62x39 Herron arms conversion with a .311 bore chromoly barrel is with the Dominion HP ammo

Hornady SST and Prvi Partizan SP. I also find Barnaul accurate and clean burning (and cheaper)--so much for some of the negative press it sometimes gets.

No one, eh?

Dominion Arms is decent for accuracy. Barnaul and MFS is substandard for the price.

I disagree. Both have performed acceptably in my experience. Out of my 1949 Russian SKS, I was making reliable hits on a 13" gong at 300m with iron sights. For my 1950 Russian with magwedge rail and 4x scope, groups were between 1.5-3" most of the time. Occasionally I'd get an MOA group but I'd say that is more indicative of a fluke rather than what the rifle/ammo is capable of.

I got 3 crates left unfortunately. I should of bought more when it was plentiful.

I want to change career and follow your path, jelly that you seem to have unlimited resources to purchase every hobby things under the sun.
Obviously I am doing something wrong!

Tongue in cheek.... kinda......:p

I am glad to hear that your guns shoot the stuff well. I will give it another try.

I do not understand why one type of ammo would be preferred by one gun or another except that possibly through manufacture of both ammo and rifle sliht vaiances in milling, load etc... may make slight differences. Heck I'd imagine one batch of Barnaul from say 2015 may shoot slightly different than Barnaul 2016 or same with Hornady except that they are supposed to have tighter tolerances.
I do not know for sure but that would make sense to me.

I realized this year after my first hunt with an SKS shooting iron sights and barnaul SP next year I want S&B SP brass and a small scope. I missed a buck at about 300 yrds, would have stood a chance with good ammo and a better view. I did really enjoy carrying the SKS through the woods much better than my Yugo K98. Sks fit in my shoulder better and had better carry balance. Still I probably would have got that deer with the Mauser.....

The worst in my opinion has been tulammo SP. I was getting 3 to 4 short hang fires per box.
Good to know. There supply is just down to 7.62x39 Sp&FMJ and .223 FMJ have not tried the stuff myself. I find Barnaul SP get chewed up when chambered in the SKS. Not sure how much it would affect aerodynamics but couldn't help.
