Who's done some good shooting with their 91/30 or M44? Just looking to see what a guy can expect from these rifles with no optics and handloads?

I've been working up some loads and am almost where I want to be at about 1-1.5" groups at 100 yards (front rest of course). Not to sure why I have 2 nice groups wth 5 rounds, hoping its my error not the loads.

I did a few things, non bubba. Floated Barrel, shimmed upper hand gaurd to clear barrel and added Mojo Snap Sights. All no gunsmith mod that can be undone in a few mins.

And Thanks. Would like to get the 2 groups closer together! Only had 5 rounds that load to try. Will be loading a bunch like that now.

Well bravo "most pricey hunting rifles cant shoot that good"

I can shoot nearly that well with my Finnish Tikka 91/30 Mosin Nagant with Czech surplus. It all depends on the ammo, shooter, and barrel condition. That is the best grouping I have ever seen from a Russian (presumably) 91/30, well done!

my best group whas 1.25" snap (5 shot) with my m38, 160gr cast with gas check and for powder load 11.3gr of unique . very light but accurate their whas a few witnesse to prouve it

i shoot cast boullet in all of my surplu rifle bang! bang!

VERY nice group Ryan! I have 2 bone stock-as-issue 91/30s that Im currently working up a load for. I am thinking of doing another review, like I did recently for my PU for all of my Mosins as I recieved some positive feedback. Post some pictures of the rifle! What year/arsenal is it

Damn good shooting

Hey Craig, hows vancouver? Heard your hanging out on hastings! I'll make sure i save some of that load for when you get back, need a witness for sure. I go to the range and come back with fishing stories like this one. You should get a No 4 craig those things will shoot goooood. Next on my list (if I ever work) is a K31.

There is still room for improvment as far as I can see it though.

Yeah its russian 1943 (refurbed) mosin 91/30.

More reasons to stick with cheap old milsurps.

Rear sight, arsenal, year.

Shims to have top guard not touch barrel. Notice how nice the wood is on this baby!

My attempt to show the bore, and front sight.

Its just your average run of the mill been smashed a few times in it's life Mosin. The stuff I didn't take pics of is the sanding of the channel under the barrel and about .030" shim under the tang on the back of the action and under the front the the action. (as per the surplis rifle.com bubba free accurization).

1.25 Group

I have both original Russian 91/30 and Polish made M-44. Russian one I just have for the show, never been fired. FROM Polish M-44 I did get 1.25 groups at 100 meters with Hungarian Machine Gun ammo. Hunting soft points I was disappointed because it was geting sticky in the chamber

Here's my last time out, was testing a couple different loads.

Factory stock 91/30 1939 Tula made, reloader 19 w/ 174 grain hornady match type bullets.

Shot off my elbows (no rest), using a sling. Not my best efforts but pretty good I think. I've done a bit better off of sandbags, but they're frozen at the moment :( .

Ryan; what do you think of the snap sights? I've kinda wondered about them, especially the front one. What size apertures do you have in them?

Robin

I think the snap sights are amazing, plain and simple. 5 mins to install work great. I ordered the appature pack and have not found the right combo yet but have .150, .120, and .090. Looks like large back, medium front will be the ticket.

This worked great for me since to get on target my front sight had to be wayyyyy over to thr right. As you can see my rear one is a bit to the left and I can shoot on center now.

There is no Canadian dealer, however they will ship to canada and very very fast aswell.

Total price for my sights was 116 Canadian, I bought the sight set, and the appature pack. They charge 7 bucks US for shipping and 20 US for international orders. I was not to impressed by that extra 20 US, but it's that or don't get them. Needless to say I cam very impressed with the sights fit, finish and function.

Wow man. I may have to get a set of those for my M44 now to make it a little more accurate lolol. Now your rifle is a contendor with the K98. Time to start working it out to 300y again

The Finns knew what they were doing when they built barrels and set up their rifles. I have a nice M27 that a guy arm twisted me into buying from him at a show 20 yrs ago for $60 as I recall. I never shot it until about 10 yrs ago when I made up handloads for it using .308 dia bullets. It has proven to be one of the most accurate MILSURPs I've owned-just about as good as my best 1903 Springfields.
