My father gave me his old Winchester M100 Semi in .308. Refinished the stock now is sharp in appearance and I replaced the gas piston so that it cycles smoothly.

The question relates to that I've heard its not a very accurate rifle. Realistically it always worked for him but I like to tinker. I've noticed the front swivel is hard mounted to the barrel through the stock so the barrel is not free floating. Is this attachment point required and would glass bedding the stock make any difference on on a semi rifle of this type. Cheers.

I have the model 88 variant, the lever action.
I suggest you check that the stock does not contact the barrel in other places along the barrel chanel. You can accomplish that with a slip of paper.
Then play with the tension on that front screw a bit. It may like the screw tight. it may not.
To see if the screw is having an effect, take the screw right out, and fire a few groups.
Can't comment on bedding the rifle. I know with a lot of bolt gun guys, that's the first thing they do. I like a free floated barrel myself.

I have a 100 that wasn't a very good shooter when I got it. About 3" was a good group! I read somewhere?? about bedding that forestock screw & went ahead & did it, with nothing else it is now a consistant 1 1/2" shooter all day!
That's plenty good for a deer gun IMO! Wish I could tell you exactely how but as I said..that was a long time ago. One thing I do remember is that it has to be bedded all the way around the screw boss! Sorry I can't be of much more help:redface: . One thing is if yours is a poor shooter at least you can't go wrong ;) :D
