Accurizing the Ruger MKIII Semiauto

I'm hesitant as well for the same reasons what pray tell would you suggest as an alternative?
 
Swapping out the guts of the Ruger isn't that bad, there are lots of videos out there that show you how. The hardest part is getting the barrel of the frame the first time - mine was very well fit. I certainly don't know another semi-auto for $1000 that would have the same adjustable trigger, easily available parts, and great accuracy. Even if you think about the 'step-up' to a new Model 41, I suggest go to RFC and read all the difficulties in poor quality that people are having with the newer Model 41s, and the frustration with sending them back to S&W.
 
Well I just got of the horn with Dante (whoever they are) - out of Quebec! Apparently they carry the Majestic Arms speed strip kit, so I ordered one in. When it gets here I am taking the damned gun to Rotten Rod the Gunsmith and HE can piddle with that bechitted pistol! I took it apart, can't get it back together and almost popped a gasket and pooped my pants with road rage! What kind of demented SOB designs a gun like that? One of the guys at the club told me he doesn't take his apart. He just sprays in tons of solvent and gets what he can out with rags, tooth brushes and compressed air!

If I had to do it again...I like the S&W 41 (hell, I love it), and I could go for an old Colt Woodsman...but the industry benchmark seems to be the Ruger or the Browning Buckmark - and I have heard of grown men chimping out in rage trying to get them back together again too!

I figure if I throw enough money at it eventually I will have a tack driver...

I cant speak authoritatively as I still have and love my mkiii.

But if I were to do it all over again, I would look at S&W 41s and Buckmarks. I was impressed with friends factory offerings, but my experience goes no further than that.

I'll pit my mkiii against anyones 22lr pistol it was and is accurate as f. it does benefit from upgrades for ergonomics. I,m ok with disassembly because I'm patient and disciplined. But when evaluating firearms as a dispationate 3rd party. The ruger is needlessly complicated and for years I find myself going back to the same threads with pics and writeup of step by step dis/reassembly.

Im not saying dont get one. Im saying know thyself and try everything before commiting.

Anschutz Exemplar 10" 60 oz guns... what recoil?
Ruger MKII 10" KM and KMK 55-63 oz... recoil? HAHAHAHA
Juuuuust below it for accuracy are the Buckmark 10" Silhouettes (in real life they beat the Rugers because of the sight hoods and superior triggers though.) 55oz... what is recoil?
Thompson Contender 10" (with some trigger work it could compete with the Rugers) 51oz
Smith and Wesson M46 7" BBL
Ruger Government Target 6-7/8"
Smith and Wesson M41 7" BBL
Browning Field Target 5.5

I already shoot two 41's and they are the creme du la creme for me but like most other bullseye guys always looking for something a tad better

Thanks to the Ruger Mk III I now have Tourette's Syndrome! Cnut! Dammit - seems like I have dyslexia now too, gdodamimt!!!!

The Ruger MK III was invented by Satan and tempts the foolish into sin with it's sleek looks and fine, tack driving accuracy.
 
Keep hearing about how much trouble it is to disassemble and assemble the Ruger Mark 1, 2,3. Its quite easy actually. Just watch the hammer strut when assembling then everything goes smooth.

Ya I have no idea what people are talking about when they find it difficult to disassemble. It really is easy! Only thing I ever had any difficulty with is knocking the receiver off the frame and watch the hammer strut. Remember to insert mag and pull trigger when locking in the mainspring housing! Easy peasy
