Savage Literally Squeezes More Accuracy Out of Its Rifles With New AccuStock Technology

SUFFIELD, CT -- First there was the AccuTrigger, now there is the Accustock, the next phase in the accuracy revolution from Savage Arms. The AccuStock uses an aluminum spine and 3D Bedding Cradle molded into the stock in such a manner that it becomes an integral part of the composite stock.

The result is a polymer composite stock that possesses many of the same properties of high-end aftermarket stocks, bringing this high level of performance to the production rifle. “When the AccuTrigger came out, it was very disruptive technology. The rest of the industry had to run to play catch-up,” Savage Arms CEO Ron Coburn said. “We expect the AccuStock to have the same effect. We’re proving again that you can have custom rifle quality in a factory gun.”

The AccuStock facilitates more consistent accuracy in two ways:

Rigidity – With its integral aluminum spine that runs from the action down the length of the forearm, the AccuStock is the most rigid factory polymer stock in the marketplace. No matter how hot the weather or the barrel, the forend stays rock-solid and the barrel remains free-floating.

Three-Dimensional Bedding Pressure – Pillar-bedded and v-block stocks, as good as they are, only apply bedding pressure on one axis, up and down. The AccuStock uses a wedge bolt to push the recoil lug back into the aluminum spine to prevent any movement forward and aft, while the bedding cradle literally squeezes the action from the sides when the action screws are tightened.

“The stock literally squeezes the action from all directions,” Coburn said. “It becomes part of the action, making the whole rifle much stiffer and much more consistent.”

While the differences in the AccuStock cannot be seen from the outside, AccuStock rifles will be easily identifiable by their new smooth barrel locknut and trigger-guard mounted bolt release.

... I hope it's paintable. I get enough clear guns with airsoft.

no kidding looks like how my airsoft used to look (thank you krylon)

You guys are kidding right. Do you think that is the colour of the stock. It is shown like that to illustrate the internal construction that would not be apparent with a solid colour.

Sorry Lh,
We must have had the same thought. When I finished typing and sent the reply, your post was there.

I'm not. Airsoft imports were prohibited because they looked realistic...

So naturally... airsoft started importing guns with clear recievers. Same guns, same internals, and with some exceptions, essentially the strength receiver, just one was black and made it a prohibited device and the other was clear and made it a toy. Got the idea that savage was doing it in order to get around some weird ITAR thing that might say, "YOU WILL NOT SELL TACTICOOL STOCKS TO TALIBAN CANADA!"

.... Yay messed up import laws.

lol, i was certainly hoping so. though it looks sorta cool/interesting like that, even though i wouldnt buy it like that myself

That's very interesting. I've watched how Savage improved their machining quality, there barrel quality, the accutrigger and I have predicted over coffee at Timmy's that they would soon improve their stock. I am impressed with the novel but rational approach to the new stock.

I am not into airsoft, I gave up toys at childhood so I wouldn't know however I doubt Savage would market something to look like a toy.

This final sentence in this article pretty much sums it up.

For those waiting for 'naked' stocks, the above pics were for a promotional stock. They molded this stock in clear polycarbonate so you could see the skeleton chassis inside.

No, it is not how the production stocks will be. They will continue to use the thermoplastic presently used now.

Very opaque and usually black.

Like Jerry said, same exterior stock design, just with bedding block system. An improvement in the structure but not the aesthetics. With more and more of the knock off XL7’s being purchased and raved about, you will see many Savage improvements. With improvements comes a higher price, yet a better rifle to boot.

Thank god for the Steven’s and its following as the Savage’s we know now will mostly likely continue to improve.

Yes, and whether a person is a Savage fan or not, Savage is driving a great deal of improvement in the entire industry so we all benefit whether we chose to buy their product or not.

Isn't that what I said.:)

It is only offered in a few variants on the Law enforcement series. There is a black and a digital camo version. They plan to gradually expand the accustock in their line-up.

My next rifle purchase will probably be an accustock Savage (when they introduce it to the 11G/111G. If they could only expand their range of available calibers like Ruger. I'd love to get a 35 whelen, 280 Rem. or a 338 Federal, anything but the usual boring offerings!

Newsflash: this is something the Europeans have been doing for years already - just look at AI and Blaser... Now, if they can bring it to the market for a reasonable price, that would definetely be a plus.

If you look at Savage site, the MSRP's on these rifles is right in there with previous models. Of course, street pricing will be vastly different (lower) so I expect that Savage will offer a tangible product upgrade for a nominal increase in cost.

HS, Choate, Hogue and Stockade stocks all do a similar product. However, HS products are pricey.

I would expect this stock to be more in line with the Choate type of synthetic overmold. The big question to me is how much weight this will add. Choate stocks can add a lot of weight to a rifle.

Not much of a problem with a bench or tactical rig. No good for a hunting rifle.

The Accustocked rifles are supposed to come with a smooth barrel nut and of course will carry a different manf coding.

You will have to stay on top of this. I just got a Savage from a major mail order house - NEW Stock. Enclosed catalog is from 2007. YMMV
