Accutrigger spring.

Hi. I have a Sav. 10TR. I have adjusted the spring as light as it will go... 3 lbs. I use the gun exclusively for benchrest, so I'd like to have it down another 1.5 lbs. if possible. Are there different springs available, or can I gently file the top of this spring? Any other ideas?

HAHA, before you say it, I've heard good things about Rifle Basix and Timny (sp) triggers and would be willing, if you guys can tell me which of these you picked, and why. Pleeese, no fighting!:nest: If I go this way, I would try to do something to the Accutrigger, just to see if I can.

Google 'trimming accutrigger spring'. I did this on one of mine out of necessity as the previous owner damaged it by trying to lighten it further than it could go and ultimately caused it to not be able to be set at the lowest weight, I think it was stuck at around 5 lbs. I now have it around 2.5 - 3. It is recommended that you only trim it a 1/4 of a coil at a time.

Got my MKii down to 1.5

Why did I choose RB, Because It was cheaper... lol...

I must say, I like the feel and crispness of the Accutrigger. I'm thinkin' the previous owner boogered the spring like Joe said. I will try clipping it... if I screw it up I guess I'll get one of these two triggers. Is it a straight swap, or is there some skill involved?? I get spooked when it comes to triggers (and actions and stocks and barrels)... C.
 
I installed a RB trigger in my 110 HS FCP and it's set at around 1.5 lbs. Great adjustable trigger for the price. Installing it was pretty easy to do. The RB trigger comes with an excellent installation guide, which helps a lot. A few of the stock trigger parts have to be used to attach the RB trigger group.

A while ago, I managed to pickup a Savage target Accu-Trigger to install in a Savage action I purchased, that's going to be set into a Choate stock. It can be adjusted down to around 1.5 lbs from what I've read. If you see one of those on the EE you may want to pick one up, especially if you like the Accu-Trigger 'feel'.

If you mess up the spring when you're trimming it, or it's already 'Bubba'd' up, shoot me a PM and I should be able to dig one up for you.
 
Those red target accutriggers will go down to 6-8oz. Reliability of engagement may vary, Savage triggers have a redundant safety built in that just won't allow the firing pin to be cocked. FWIW, my savage .308 sports a RB SAV2, set at 6 ounces. It's awesome, but no extra safety measures so I have to be gentle.
