I'd really like to pick up one of these Ace folders for a project I'm working on but am unsure about whether or not they'd be a) exportable or b) available in Canada already.

ACE used to export to Canada. Someone on this board pissed them off enough that they said they would no longer sell directly to Canadians. When the new rules came into effect they obviously were not interested in jumping through the hoops.

There was a fair sized thread on it at the time and I think it was about 7-8 years ago. I don't know if it will show up in a search.
 
The adapter is made out of anodized aluminum - the locking lugs are steel and its quite heavy.

There is a bolt-carrier extension that must be attached to the rear of the carrier to fill the gap between the rear of the bolt carrier and the front of the recoil buffer once the folding system is installed to maintain contact with the buffer

It is not recommended to fire the gun with the stock folded - it may damage the gun or adapter. Only 1 round will fire when the stock is folded - nothing will fly out the back end. A spring-loaded finger locks into the bolt-carrier extension when the stock is folded, preventing it from moving rearward should the gun be fired in this configuration.
