This helmet was probably relined in Leningrad during the siege in 1941 based on the opinions of Russian and other experts that have seen photos of this helmet.
The two I'll put up here are my favorites. The first is my WW1 M16 Named Camo Stahlhelm. It's all original, though the liner pads and leather have seen better days, it's missing the chin strap too. (The paint is correct and original, my camera flash makes it look much brighter than it actually is). This helmet goes great with my 1914 MO Gewehr98.
The other one is my WW2 M35 Stahlhelm with original German liner. This one is interesting as it has been one of the many hundreds of thousands captured by the Norwegians following the surrender of German troops in that country at the end of WW2. The Norwegians added their own Royal Norwegian shield decals to it and dyed the liner a darker color. A very interesting piece. It goes well with my Norwegian Captured and rechambered/reissued K98 in 7.62x63mm.
Now all I really want is a Pickelhaube!
I have about 4 other WW1 and WW2 Kraut lids, but these are my faves.
I have just one, a double decaled Deutsche Polizei (German Police) Austrian transitional model with a label inside giving the name and unit of the guy it was issued to:
I don't think anyone cares to see my repainted ww2 canadian helmet. Tons in surplus stores everywhere. I thought it was cool that it was made by a lamp company though!
I'd like to see it! Both of my MkIIIs are reprints but I still really enjoy them. If it got painted it must have been used or it wouldn't have been painted. Just adds to the history.
I've always assumed that I had a knockoff helmet or one in terrible shape but.. It looks just like the MK1 posted earlier in this thread. I think I got it at irving rivers in Ottawa for $30?
