I was lucky enough to acquire an ACOG 4X and was wondering where you can read up on how to do range estimation with the optic.

Any help would be greatly appreciated as mine was used and did not have a manual.

I think it's supposed to be pretty caveman simple. Just match the hash mark in the BDC to the shoulder width of an average sized human target. Use the line that's the closest.... I think.

Yup thats it.

You zero it at 100 meters then use the horizontal stadias to range your target using the shoulder width.

Depending on the model, your reticle is calibrated with a particular ammunition, barrel lenght and mounting system, ex: m193 / 20" / Carry handle mount. This is not even writen in the manual...

If I remember there is a sticky on ar15.com's optics forum, some guy tested a lot of model and matched some loads for some of them.

Edit: Got it go there http://www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=3&f=18&t=229420
