ACOG Clone Review

My ACOG clone has arrived! Check of the pics of it mounted on "Darla".

The fit and finish look great as do the optics. I am hoping to take it out to the range this weekend to try it out.

There is not much eye releif to this scope. Not sure if this is the same as the real ACOG or not. I have the scoped moved forward a bit in the hope thatI can place an ARMS #40L behind it and still be close enough to the scope. We will see!

Well, I have took my ACOG clone scope out to the range this morning mounted on my 20" HBAR AR-15.

Overall I am impressed.

The optics are very crisp and the eye relief if just enough so that I can mount the scope on my flat-top and still put a ARMS #40L behind it. It is in focus at 100m and 200m.

It took me awhile to sight it in until I realized that that "up" really means "down" and "left" really means "right"... the Chinese need to work on their QC ;-) I shot a ~2.5" group at 100 meter off the bench with 62 gr ball and then I shot about 60 more rounds at this range. The point of impact did not change. I then moved to prone position and shot about 40 rounds at 200 meters. The "mil lines" on the scope lined up dead on at 200 meters and I shot about a 5" group (good enough for me).

Next time out I will try a few hundred rounds and try out to 300m.

Would I bet my life on this scope in a "Free Fire Zombie Zone?" Probably not! Will it fit my "range" needs on my "Service" AR ? YES, I think so!

I am very happy with the $190 spent on this scope.

Update on my on-going review of the ACOG clone.

I removed the ACOG clone to install and sight in a ARMS#40L as a backup sight. After I sighted in with the #40L I re-installed the ACOG. Perhaps it was luck, but it shot withing 1" of the point of impact from when the scope was previously mounted. Very nice!

Here is a pics of rifle (Darla) with the #40L and ACOG clone installed. Note that you can not use the #40L with the ACOG installed. Also note that there is BARELY enough eye-releif to mount the ACOG far enough forward to allow room for the #40L with using the standard A2 stock. With a shorter stock this would not be a problem.

Pic of my 50m group I shot with 62gr commercial ball. I was on the bench and there was a nice crosswind (about 15-20km)

Pic of 100m group.... I would guess about a 1.5" group. Not bad for a rifle I put together myself ;-)

I shot 100 rounds this am, and the scope is holding up well. Next I will try running it over with my van (just kidding! ;-)

yeppers.. the way I see it is this is a great scope for the range and plinking.. certainly not a scope I would want to bet my life on in a 2-way shooting range.:)

my Aimpoint clone worked real well as a target(shot the #### out of it with the SPR)....biggest POS ever pooped out on a 10/22

Agreed Kevin... one of the reason I bought this $190 scope was to see how well I like the 3x scopes. Eventually I want to buy an Elcan or a real ACOG and I would if I competed.. or at least buy 2 more ACOG clones, sight them in, and then carry them with me during a match ;-)

With the new ACOG's costing TWICE as much as I have put into the rifle 9so far) it will be a while before I get one.

I just got mine the other day, still haven't had a chance to shoot it.

You can definatly tell its a knock off. the finish and casting is not the greatest. Rather crude actually.

How ever, the optics are clear and the mount solid. In the end, that's all that matters. It apears to co-witness perfectly with the Eotech. I'll know for sure once I get it sighted in.

knock-offs.

I purchased the aimpoint red-dot - it went on my m305 and off to the range we went. Laterally (L to R) it was bang on at 50m (out of the box) - Vertically she was low. CLICK CLICK CLICK many many clicks and NO movement!!!!!! Dunno If it was not hooked up or what - I was out some ammo and had a scope that I could not adjust.

I might have gotten the lemon out of the bunch - who knows.

They (we know the site) took it back (cash back) with NO problems!!!!!!!!!!!

Overall easy to deal with - NO complaints there.

KevinB is right, my first one packed it in and wouldn't hold zero after about 400 rounds.

My replacement has 600+ rounds thru it, holding fine so far.

I am getting consistent 1.00 to 1.25 M.O.A. ( when I'm doing my part) with it, out to 300m. I shoot remington match out of a 14.5" stainless Armalite barrel.

Cheers,

Ben

1337 tactical seems to be sold out for this clone, and i've read on the trijicon website that they made a deal with the chinease maker of that clone to stop the production of it !
Damn !
It want one.....
That's just great. Now the clones will be worth almost as much as the real ones.

Nope, no further production proves they were faulty, so they are only worth a fraction of what the suckers paid for them.

I'll pay $100 for one just to be nice... :p
