ACOG that was sold to US Gov.

Hi, so I bought an ACOG on ebay recently. I contacted Trijicon to give them the serial number and see when it was manufactured. Here is the reply I got:

Thank you for your interest in Trijicon products. We have confirmed that the provided serial number and model number are correct however; our records also indicate that this product was originally sold to the U.S. Government and therefore, we are required to report this communication to the Department of Defense Investigation Group so that they can determine if this product was removed from government inventory legally or not. Please do not be alarmed if you are contacted by the Department of Defense once a decision has been made to pursue an investigation of the incident. Please contact us if you require further assistance.

This sounds like it could potentially be pretty serious. Has anyone had any experience with something like this?

Are you 100% sure that it is a real ACOG?

It is possible that it might be a replica that used a US Government serial number in order to appear authentic.

Do you suppose that there is any chance that the sight was stolen?
Then there is the additional issue of how it was exported from the US.
This could be an interesting thread...
Reminds me of the story about the M203 grenade launchers. Colt was very surprised to learn that some had found their way into civilian hands in Canada.
 
Worst case scenario, you end up in Guantanamo. I would convert to Islam now, so you get along with the others, and practice waterboarding at home. Don't worry, it's not torture- it's just plain fun!

When they contact you, tell them you sold it to some guy named Mohammed at the range.;)

Seriously though, this could be interesting. Why you would import something via eBay (I assume illegally from the USA) and then ask for more serial number details is beyond me...

It wasn't imported. I bought it from a Canadian seller. It came from Vancouver.

Ooh... nasty!!!

I'd bet he/she brought it in "on the downlow" then. Let's hope that the contact info you have for them is legitimate - because, frankly, if you get a call from the US DoD or DoS, giving them this person's contact information is going to be just about your best defense. cou:

Here is how this can work having dealt with this before with another CGN member. Firstly, you have zero warranty on the product. That is important to note. At the end of the day, should the serial number come back as stolen from the US mil, you are in possession of stolen goods. As you got it from someone, I would immediately contact them and ebay since you are now on the hook. The nice thing about Ebay is you have some help given that this is stolen government property that you purchased via them. They will take an interest and will likely assist. Your objective should be to get your money back. There is usually a reason that stuff is cheaper than getting it new....particularly on ebay. Either it is a knock off or stolen!

So pick up the phone, get hold of Ebay via customer service. Also contact the seller and demand a refund. It will take a bit of time but you should be able to get your money back. I don't think you have any other option and it seems kind of silly to keep a high $ product with no warranty.

Thank you for the reply. I'm going to contact eBay right now and let them know about the situation. Perhaps everything is all good and it was legally removed from the US Mil... I HOPE!!
