I am looking to throw either an ACOG or an Accupoint on my SAN Black Special Target and was hoping to default to CGN for your experiences. Can anyone tell me what the benefit is for an ACOG over an Accupoint? If the ACOG is 500-700 dollars more than the Accupoint of the same max magnification (1-4 on the Accupoint and 3.5 on the ACOG) then why pay the extra money for an ACOG? I am looking to shoot mainly within 300m but wouldn't mind stretching it out to 600 with 62 gr rounds once and a while.

I'd be of the opinion that the ACOG 's advantage would be the BDC reticle. The Accupoints use the Bindon concept with the illuminated "dot", but the ACOG is specifically calibrated for the AR. Just my .02, but whatever way you go, you're going to have a good quality optic.

Accupoint 1-4x is the way to go. TR24G or R. Much better than ACOGS in my opinion, but no BDC reticle. The turrets on the TR24 are decent though, and e BDC reticles aren't really that accurate.

And that's what I was kind of thinking. I have a 1:10 twist barrel that is made with GP 90 ammo in mind so the BDC for 5.56 NATO would be different.

I have one of the smaller ACOG's (8-33R) which is a 3X unit.
I bought it used for about the same cost as an Accupoint and a good mount.
The optics are very good, the chevron with the BDC below are excellent.
I have been very tempted to replace it with an Accupoint to get the 1 x 4 range. I am not a fan of the Accupoint triangle with the two bars below, but I am sure I could get used to it.
Either are great.

Any opinions on which Accupoint is best?

1-4, 2.5-10 or 3-9? I know that it is dependant on what the application is but in terms of clarity at max magnification.

Also, best place to buy from.

Thanks for the input gents.

That would depend on what you intend to do with the optic and rifle. If you shoot action type events where fast and short range(50 yards and less) are the norm, then the 1-4 is the answer. If you intend to use it for service rifle matches where static positions and longer ranges are the norm, I would go with the 2.5-10. Personally, the 3-9 offers nothing over the 2.5-10 and doesn't have the low end to compete against the 1-4.

With the 2.5-10x56 I just worry about having the larger bell on it. There is no diopter sight to get over because it is a Black Special Target. If I have to buy higher rings to accomadate the larger bell, that might affect my cheek weld. Just a thought.
