So I want to buy an acog to go on my flat top ar15T rifle, the model I like is the TA31RCO-M4, some reason I like it is that it has BAC for the 16" barrel (I have an ar15T carbine) and the Chevron looks like a good reticle for both fast short range work and out to wherever using the BAC.

so tell me about these, are they worth the money ??

- What mount will I need to put this on a flattop, what ones are the best and have the least knobs hanging over the edge of the reciever. and are repeatable accuracy wise.

would like some words of wisdom from owners..... post your review of your acog, include the model nuber please.

I love my TA31 RCO M4 worth ever penny! The BAC is the cats ass. I have it mounted on a Larue Mount(LT100), also worth ever penny. If you want one you'll have to go to the states as there are none in Canada any more(not sure if there ever were any up here).

Here's mine

I've got a bunch of questions. How close is the scope calibrated for distance? I mean it is designed to use 5.56 military rounds but how close is it with .223? I take it you're supposed to zero it at 100yds if so how far off is it at 400yds? Or have you had the opportunity to shoot that far yet? What part of the reticle do you use for 200 + 300yds What bullet weight is it used with 55gr or 62gr? And how is it for close combat type shooting? Is there too much magnification to use it indoors at a 25 yard range? How does it work at closer ranges like 15 or 20 yds? Any input would be great!

the scope above is calibrated for the 62gr army round out of the 16"bbl M4 rifle that the marine corp is adopting..... using milspec ammo the bdc should be right on.

as you can see in the picture it is marked for 100-400-500-600-700-800 yd markings right in the reticle.

US mil spec for its 62gr should be around 3100 fps from a 20" bbl..... +\-

The tip of the chevron is 100m
The inside tip of the chevron is 200m
The red tip under the chevron is 300m
The rest is marked for 400,500,600,700 and 800m down the line.
Also the chevron and hash marks can be used as a simple range finder by placing the marks on a mans chest and the one that fits is the range of the target.

As for CQB this scope has the BAC option on it so at close range with both eye open it acts like a no magnification red dot sight. It's hard to explain so here's a link to how it works with a demo

Thanks a lot! Very helpful. Does anyone know what the hash marks to the left and right of the chevron are used for?

I understand that the U.S. has banned export of the ACOG? If I were to buy one in the U.S. and bring it back to Canada would Canadian Customs have a problem with this? Is it on an "Import Ban List" for Canada?

Sorry! Didn't know what an ITAR item was and sure didn't know that ACOG was one. If bringing one back from the U.S. is going to get me in trouble with the Canadian authorities I will look for another option. Also, I wasn't asking about smuggling. I was planning on claiming it at the border so I could pay the taxes on it.
Another set up I was thinking about was an AIMPoint on a handle mount. Can someone tell me if this is something that I can legally bring back from the U.S.???

You'd be smuggling it out of the US, not into Canada. Export licenses are required, and you wouldn't be able to attain one, unfortunately. The broken laws are on the US side.

To be quite honest with you I dont even know what ITAR stands for. I made the purchase less than six months ago and had zero problems getting the import papers and the exporter seemed to have no problems getting his. Maybe I just lucked out?

The ACOG is no longer coming in to Canada period.

You don't need to go to the states to get one as we have Aimpoint dealers here in Canada, just click on the shooters edge link at the top of the page.
Have you looked at the Eotech scope as an option? IMHO it's a way better scope than the Aimpoint and is roughly the same price.

I was thinking EoTech for the Olympic Arms (9mmGlock) AR and to change things up maybe an Aimpoint on a handle mount for an M-4 clone (16"barrel)? Another option I've just started thinking about is maybe a US Optics Sn12 with a lit reticle on a flattop AR M-4 clone? What do you think?

I emailed Trijicon to ask them if any model of ACOG or mini ACOG was O.K. for export to Canada. I thought maybe certain models that weren't used by the military would be alright. To my surprise I got a response back this morning from Trijicon's Technical Services Rep. He said that Trijicon products were still available at Milarm, Police Ordnance and R. Nichols Distributors (their official distributors here). I also emailed a company called Tetragon that has aTAO1NSN advertised and they didn't know that it was supposed to be on the ITAR list. They said they would check on the availability and let me know. Could it be possible that ACOGs are off the list now?

Just because an item is IRA'd does not mean it cannot be exported.

It does mean the exporting company has more hoops to jump thru and and end user cert is to be drawn -- US DOS does sometimes accept end users for canadian civilain ownership but not always

I have talked directly to Police Ordnance who is the suppler to Milarm and they said they didn't have anymore ACOG's left and would NOT be getting anymore. As for R. Nichols Distributors they don't deal with the public so I highly doubt you can get one from them. I could be wrong but I think the ACOG's that are here are going to be the last ones (if I'm wrong here please pipe in).
