I'm going through that WW1 photoalbum that I posted about once. I found a picture of two Canadian soldiers behind a line of German POW's. Their SMLEs have a fabric action cover held on with a snap.
Two things that caught my eye - if they were following prisoners, it would take a little while to pull the cover off should one of them run. Also, I haven't yet come across another picture of Canadians having action covers on their rifles, is this unusual? Where they were was barren but not muddy.
