Action for 416 taylor

Hey all. Im starting a list for parts for a 416 taylor build. I was planning on using a savage 110 action and a boyds laminate stock with a shilen prefit barrel but now im having second thoughts.
One thought would be to rebarrel a zastava 458wm

It will be a budget type build and used for hunting moose and bear only so im not looking for a full custom action. With that in mind what would you build off?
 
Yes, the 416 Ruger is the way to go. Use any magnum bolt face rifle and rebarrel/rechamber it. I built one off a Ruger tang safety that was originally a 338 win mag. Bought the brass and dies easily.

I'd look for a well priced m77 mk2 that has a stock you like and you're half the way there. The Rugers have a slightly wider mag box compared to a model 70 which will help with a 416 case

Im pretty set on the 416 taylor. Ive got 250 brass cases to neck down for it already and i can use basically any 2.5" brass to form it if i need
I have a 458wm so i dont need the maximun power that the other 416s provide

I used a Weatherby Vanguard action for my 416 TAYLOR build with a #5 SS Bob Jury barrel and a B&C Weatherby Style Stock ! The WBee action is a Very Good Smooth action ! RJ

I've built 2 on 700 actions. Any magnum bolt long action will work without mods.

Necking down 458 brass is the quickest easiest route.

I have a reamer for it also.

I also have a 416 Remington reamer if you really want to abuse your shoulder...:)
 
I had two .416 Taylors, one on a Mauser action and the other on a Rem M721 (ex .300 H&H). Mauser with custom wood stock and the 721 with a Bell&Carlson. The Mauser was 9-1/2 lb scoped and the 721 only 8lb. With full loads the 721 was wicked to shoot, lights went out when I pulled the trigger, thought I was headed for a retinal detachment, so sold it. The Mauser was quite pleasant to shoot, had it for several years but eventually sold it as well. Only one .416 bore left, a 10.x51 (.416x2", or .458 American's little brother) on a Remington M600 action. No game with it yet but very fun to shoot.
 
Im still wanting a 458x2" rifle as well. What velocities are you getting with the 416x2"? Likely be a great black bear cartridge over bait

This taylor will be my main moose gun but will be used for bear when seasons over lap. Ive just wanted one since rrading john pondoro taylors book of african rifles and cartridges

^^ yeah i have a 8 pound 6 oz 460 weatherby mag, thumps pretty good for sure

Also i like the idea of using a p14/m17 action for the build. Im working on a 500 jeffery p14 build now.
 
Boyd's might not be the stock to go with. I've had great luck with them in smaller calibers but I put one on my 358 Norma and it cracked at the recoil lug after less than a box of loads
