Blue Mountain Sports in N.B. is an importer for Lother Walther Barrels. Picked up an adapter cartridge to use in the 12 gauge that fires 38 Special ammo.It is a 12 gauge type case with a short piece of 38 cal barrel which extends into the shotgun bore.Steel barrel in it with a 38 Special chamber. The Germans refer to it as a "Game Dispatcher" but I was able to hit softdrink cans at 50 feet with it. Really neat rig. Sells for $105.00

Before I'd spend $105 on a shotgun adapter, I'd be e-mailing Gunnar, Barry, Casey, or one of the other gunsmiths on the board and asking if they want to get funky with any left over barrel stock.

Hmm..........

Beware the 22 rimfire adapters, because they are offset, getting any reasonable accuracy, even enough to kill Mr Rabbit is a joke with the cheap aluminum adapters.
Better money probably spent on the Lothar Adapters, that is where I plan to spend good money next.....
What rgwitman said, an did, is pretty much impossible with the other aluminum American adapters. Believe me I tried.....38s were okay for bunnies but only at 10 yards(!), but 22s totally sucked(!!!).......

To improve accuracy mark the adapter with a sharpie then fire it twice at 12 oclock in the barrel then goto 1 oclock. When you find the spot that it hits dead on at , mark with a center punch or something more permanent at 12 oclock. So the adapter can be put in the barrel with the mark at 12 every time.

So, does Lothar make a useful and reasonably accurate adapter for the 22lr/ 12 gauge? If so, where would a person find one?

Thanks

R93 my friend I do not know/have any knowledge of the Lothar adapters....

Seems what i have read here that they are better than the straight aluminum constructed adapters that I have, and yes i have tried the indexing, 50%success with 38 special, 0% success with 22 magnum rimfire.

Do not accidently, even dry fire these rimfire adapters, in your centrefire arm, as the firing pin mark is like a moon crater in the softer aluminum....

What I have been wondering is if instead of adaptors could entire barrels be mounted and give you a single shot big bore CF rifle? or is the shotgun receiver no where near strong enough???

I had a .45acp 10" barrel adapter made- it inserted into the shotgun barrel like a long, long shell. Worked pretty well and was a high quality item. It's like having a second gun.

Certainly a 12 gauge action is plenty strong enough unless you're talking some ultra high powered rifle calibre, YMMV. Typically the inserts available are in pistol calibres.

A buddy of mine has a 30-06 to 7.62x25 adapter he claims of good for shooting grouse while out moose hunting. Sounds like more hassle than a pellet pistol or a slingshot to me but whatever floats your boat.

Interesting - (from the McACE site) - I assume 7.62x39 wouldn't cycle a semi-auto like the M14-s ...

How about using the 7.62x39 in the 308 or 30-06?
Or the 308 in the 30-06?

As gun writer Roy Huntington said: "Duh...this was so obvious and simple."

Now you can turn your 308 or 30-06 into a 7.62x39 and take advantage of inexpensive ammo!

Simply coat the the outside of the adapter with non permanent Locktite™, place a fired 7.62x39 case inside the chamber and close the bolt. After 10-12 hours, eject the 7.62x39 case and you are ready to start shooting. Inexpensive Russian ammo costs 25-50% less than any regular 308 or 30-06. A broken shell extractor will remove the adapter and return the gun to it's original caliber. If you are careful, the adapter is reusable!

Also available in 308/30-06. Each kit includes one tube of Locktite™.

Complete kit: only $25.00. Broken shell extractors: $10.00

I have had and used a 12 ga. .38/357 adaptor for 15 years or more and never had a problem with it. This convinced me try to make some in more interesting calibers and they have worked out just fine too. I have not tried rifle rounds in shotguns though, just pistol rounds and other shotshells such as 410 in 12 ga. and so on. They are easy to make and can ge quite accurate. I have seen some very long adaptors made for accuracy also, but have not had a chance to try them.
