I have never seriously considered owning a 10/22 TD before. The idea of mounting the scope on the receiver and then having a removable barrel did not appeal to me, for the same reason that quick disconnect scope mounts do not appeal to me. I would prefer a scope solidly mounted to the barrel if it is removable. Therefore, I really like this concept that Adaptive Tactical is introducing:

Available in 16" rifle and 9" "Charger" configurations, I would like to have a 2 barrel combo set using the same receiver and stock. A 16" barrel with a 4-16x scope and a 9" barrel with a 2-7x scope or something like that. What do you think?

I'm sorta the opposite here.... I love that barrel sans rail.... but have no issue with my 10/22 takedowns optics being receiver mounted. I have two stainless takedowns and the workhorse of the two easily has 6000+ rounds down the pipe and hasn't given me one problem with reliable accuracy. Only adjusting I've ever had to do on the adjusting collar is due to temperature extremes not wear. But I'll say it again I'm liking that heavy barrel.....

Barrel-mounted scope rails are nothing new. I've had a couple in the past, Power or Weigand, I think? One was actually screwed to both the barrel and the receiver, supposedly tying them together into a more rigid, more accurate unit. The other simply cantilevered back over the receiver as these do, although it was much closer to the receiver and looked much sleeker.

These work well if you want to build a rimfire understudy gun for your Scout rifle. Remove the rail, reverse it and re-attach. You now have a perfect location to mount a scout scope. It's a great way to practice if you are a Scout devotee, and it's also an easy way to try out the concept if you have no previous experience with it.
