I recently purchased an M4 and the only thing I really want to do to it right now is add a vertical grip. I don't want to change the forend. I have seen pics of this before. Do you just buy one rail and scew it to the underneath of the forend?

Thanks In Advance

Since I now have a set of M4 HG's without a home :), I just had a look at the options.

the HG is plastic and there isn't alot of material between the vent holes. I also do not believe this plastic to be very durable from the POV of twist and leverage.

Ideally, I would drill into the metal heat shield and use some machine nuts and bolts to keep the rail in place. Still not exactly robust but a whole lot better then screwing into the plastic.

Let us know how you make out...

Or a Magpul MOE Handguard (super easy to install)... They normally run less than $30, you can then add on a cheap vertical grip..

I am thinking is the one I have seen...

Comes with hardware to bolt onto handguard.

One of the better ones I have used is the Midwest Industries . I comes with the goofy nuts with the shoulder that fit perfectly into the vent holes of your standard AR handguard

Call Wolverine supplies ( see link to their parts list below )

You want the MCTAR-03 ( longer ) or -02 ( shorter )

Trying to jury rig a piece of Picatinny rail yourself onto a handguard is waste of time. The plug and play rail is only $20

Thanks for this.

I'd say spend $100 and get the UTG quad railed forend. It's decent enough and easy installation. I think you'll save a lot of trouble.

X2, I have a friend that has a similar rail. Bolted right over the ferrule and used the existing rear latch. Fit was nice and tight. Rails for anything and solid.

A much better options then bolting to a plastic piece that WILL open if pulled on.

There was someone in the EE selling something like this for like $65 shipped.

Thanks. Looks like that is the way I am headed. Just not sure which one yet.

Yep, have fun deciding which one you want.

Took me a good long time to decide on the rail I got. My deciding factor was weight. Lighter better for me.

Some rails are really heavy although they look kind of the same.

The UTG ( I think that is what he has???) didn't upset the balance at all but you could tell it was heavier then the factory forend.

Have you checked out the Knights Armament one? I was inboxed about that one and am considering it.

Sorry, I am new to all the bling that goes on an AR. I am sure all the main brands make great stuff with widely varying costs.

Of the ones I studied, I compared costs, weight and ease of assembly. This YHM forend won due in large part being to the lightest rail- I will not be hanging the kitchen sink off it.

It was also one of the lowest priced which was a bonus. There is also alot of room inside the rail so a heavy barrel will fit without issue.
