Adding a scope to a sporterized Enfield

I bought this off of a friends Uncle years ago. Using Mr. Strattons book I am pretty sure it is a No. 1 Mk III. I love shooting it but I would like to put a scope on her. It seems to be missing the Bridge charger guide. Is it possible to add a scope mount? how much work would have to be done to put it on? I am trying to get an idea of the amount of work required as I might take it to a gunsmith to have the work done, if it is possible. I have considered trying to put it back to original but from some of the threads that I have looked at getting the furniture seems to be very difficult and expensive. I am going to add some pictures as soon as I figure out how. Could somebody please PM me detailed instructions on how to add pictures, Thanks.

you can tell what it is by reading the markings on the right side of the wrist. If its missing the charger bridge thats one thing, if it never had one thats a whole different story.

I look forward to pictures.
 
There are a few different scope-mounts on the market...

I'm currently looking for one for myself.

this is a photo of my 'feild and my uncles. Mine is the lower of the two, bolt removed.

there are even kits out there that require no gunsmithing, or so I've heard, and I'd love to pick one of those up.


any help would be appreciated
 
Nice rifles Fencepost. I wish mine still had the charger guide, it really changes the look. I have seen advertisments for the scope mounts, I want to look at one first hand to get a feel for how they mount, etc. I will post pictures as soon as I figure out how.

My grandfather gave me the rifle. It's a little beat up, obviously, but it still runs smooth and I love it to death. My only complaint is how light the stock is. When compared to my uncles (aftermarket hunting stock, circa 1982) it kicks like a mule!

"...it kicks like a mule!..." Yep. The issue butt stock is very narrow and the rounded edges seem to aim the recoil into your shoulder. Even full military configuration rifles have stout felt recoil. It's not so bad while wearing a coat. The old style CF combat jacket with the liner works well.
Seems to me that one of the mount manufacturers makes one that is attached to the side if the receiver. Williams, I think. Requires drilling and tapping though.
Have the headspace checked before you spend any money.
 
Exarmysig, you need the Parker Hale side mount for the #1mk3. Thats the only option I can realistically think of, with the exception of custom fabbing one, or using a scout type mount.
IIRC it is a #128, but don't quote me on that. A nice two parter.

Proline Shooters here in Calgary has some kits for putting scopes onto our rifles without ant smithing...

for the life of me I can't remember what brand it is though
 
I might do some looking and see if I can pick up the bridge charging guide. The rifle looks way better with it on. I have seen adds for the B-square mount. I want to get a first hand look at one on an Enfield to see how sturdy it is, second best would be some decent pictures. Cost is going to be an issue for the short term, I impulse bought a Valtro PM-5 2 weeks ago and the wife is a little pissed that I didn't tell her.
