adding barrel lenght to a revolver

gallen270: The barrel for your S&W is on pg. 512 in the Brownells catologue, part # 940-074-080, and priced at $116.38. I've got a gunsmith acct. at Brownells bringing the price to $93.05. By the time that barrel is shipped and rec'd, taxes, custom duties it's going to cost you at least $150. Having a good Gunsmith fit that barrel on your gun and get everything right, there's at least another $125 to $150. So you are now upwards of $300 to get this barrel on.

You still have the hassle of your permits and such and getting the gun verified with the new barrel. Then you must add the postage to send the old barrel to CFC as proof you're not going stick the old barrel back on.

Even if you get the gun for $200 and add the barrel swap, your into that gun at least $525 or maybe more and you may end up not having proper resale value without the original barrel. You can buy a 5" or 6" barrel S&W for $400 to $450 and you'll have the original barrel that goes with the serial number and is an actual S&W barrel. Least ways you'll know what you have from the get-go and have an investment that will at least return your money spent.

I have a friend that had a barrel extended by a good gunsmith ( not me)
on a stainless 66? from 4" to 4 1/2" bushing added at muzzel and
than full lenght liner. Everthing fine until the other day when the thin
metal at forcing cone split:eek: looks to me like a new barrel,
