Hello fellows, does anyone have any experience adding iron sights to a Remington 700 VLS BDL? I think it can be done because an Youtuber has done it. I didn't inquire there because that video was years old and he never replied to any comments so I thought I'd ask here. I did some homework and online people say NECG can do it but they're based in the US wondering if I can get the parts here in Canada and do it myself? Thanks in advance!

I have had no experience with that particular rifle - but I did saw off several inches from a Husqvarna barrel, and re-attached the front sight ramp. The rifle receiver had an aperture sight on the rear bridge, so did not need a rear sight on the barrel. Was partially about figuring out a spring loaded gizmo to hold that front ramp as the solder went molten - I wanted that ramp to go straight down and not wiggle off to one side or other when the two layers of solder went liquid - and did not want torch flame on the ramp / barrel to affect that spring. As I recall, required me to scrap off the bluing on the barrel - under that front sight ramp foot print - then thin layer of solder to barrel and thin layer to underside of the ramp. Much flux used to do that - likely much more than truly needed. Then level that ramp - then clamp with spring loaded thing - heat and let the two layers of solder to fuse together. Must have worked - that ramp has not fallen off yet - rifle was a 9.3x57 chambering. I think I used soapstone to coat the barrel where I did not want solder to stick - I have read of others using the "graphite" in lead pencils to do the same thing. I was just too "chicken" to do drill and tap for a screw into the barrel - I suspect is a more certain way to install it - but I did not have jig or mill to do that.

As previously posted on CGN, I have a Zastava in 458 Win Mag. I was trying to replace the front sight element - through my own klutziness, I managed to "knock off" that front sight ramp. Was a shallow dovetail installed right angles to bore line - had like a "top hat" shaped thing in there - the tube that went vertical was drilled and threaded. Epoxy was used along the rest of that ramp - was lowered down over that "tube" and then a screw used to fasten - so when that front sight element was slid out of its dovetail - looked like a screw going down - a la Mausers - but screw did not go into barrel - went into that "top hat" tube. I think I want a banded front sight for that one - never have ordered one yet. Is the only front sight ramp that I have "knocked off" - I think the other older ones here are all soldered on - so this Zastava epoxy glue not quite as good as solder - I suspect.

OP,
Are you wanting OEM Remington open sights drilled & tapped to the barrel or drilling & tapping the receiver for a receiver sight base &/or sight?

Both options above will use #6-48tpi screws.

Thank you so much guys. Mik123 I got in touch with NECG, you're right! Potashminer, thank you so much, taking notes from your replies. DANS40X going for the latter option, thank you!
