Adding Length to Magazines

I've seen folks add a pice of wood or some other material to the bottom of their magazines to aid in grabbing it in CQB or service rifle matches. The LAR-15 mags come to mind. How did you go about it. I'm looking at adding length to M14 mags so they can be rested on the ground and used monopod style like the AR folks do with the 5/30 mags. I'm looking at adding 2.25" to the 5/20 mags so they are the same length as the original issue 30 rounders the E2 used.
I haven't experimented yet but I don't think using duct tape or electrical tape around a piece of wood is going to cut it with the rifle weight and recoil.

I'm using the 20/5 mags and they aren't long enough. I'll find out if resting off the mag causes malfunctions:).

one way would be to drill holes in the floor plate, use wood screws with countersunk heads, and some washers to space the extension away from the floor plate so you can get it back into the mag body..

OR.

weld some countersunk machine screws to the floor plate, again with washers to space it so the setup can be removable if you need to get at the mag spring. then drill holes in your extension and fix to the floor plate using nuts suited to the machinescrews you welded on

I added a cable loop clamp to the 5 round mags just to make them super fast and easy to swap.
Mine are 3/4 but you'll want at least 1" to get a gloved finger in. I just put an aluminum rivet in the existing hole and drill it out to take the mag apart.
If you want the extra height you might take some aluminum flat stock and bend into a "D" shape and use a pair of rivets. Or maybe look at conduit pipe straps.

The really good part is the mag will hang on your finger when you yank it and you can have the replacement mag in the same hand, a little practice and you can do the whole thing without loosing your sight picture.
Did the same thing to the 10/22 10 round mags with glue and a bit of plastic pipe.

Once again I over thought a simple problem. I went out into my shop, found a 1" thick ash board, band sawed it into 2.25"x3" blocks. Then I went to Sloppy Tire and got a roll of Gorilla Tape. I used the bench sander to notch for for the tabs on the bottom of the magazines and taped the blocks on. I tried them in the rilfe and lay in the backyard and they seemed solid enough. I still have to crank my neck to use them on the ground but I noticed the poodle gunners having to doing that too. Using a scope will help. To be comfortable the magazines still need 2.5". As they are, they are 30 rounder length.
Perforators method is something to I'll try on the stubby 5 rounders. Using tape I'm sure would interfer with the magazine going into the mag well.
Thanks for your input folks.

It's true for the C7. Don't know for the C1 as we where shooting C7 in the 3R22eR shooting team in 90.

But we're talking about the M14 Platform here. I saw a video of US ARMY 82nd AB reserve shooting team training on another thread. They were using M14 in SAGE EBR chassis and the instructor specifically said not to rest on the mag.
